For what it’s worth I think the linkage is a better design overall, no question. It does have more moving parts to maintain, but in reality it would need servicing very little.

I have now ridden all of the Jap bikes and a few European bikes and I haven’t noticed any real difference or deficiencies with the PDS. I agree with rocket in that I think the forks could be better since most Jap bikes I’ve ridden seem to be plusher, then again I haven’t got my forks sorted yet.

All the people that seem to complain about PDS seem to throw the motorcross/supercross thing out there when they themselves have probably never seen a supercross track, let alone ridden one.

If it’s good enough for the WEC it’s good enough for me.

luckily for us we are trail riders and they dominate the WEC, which if im not mistaken is really fast trailriding

I have 1000’s of km’s and the only time I get a smack in the arse is when I deserve it for doing the wrong thing at the wrong time, otherwise its all good, but then again acording to TB I dont ride and he is going to delete all my threads so WTF there’s no difference then to what I say

Exposing my wet ears here but can anyone explain the difference between linkage and PDS or point me to an article about it?

I think it would be safer to stay with what sells in the current economic climate..

Basically KTM use a progressively wound spring and a 2 piston dmaping system in the rear shock to act like the mechanical linkage system in the Jap bikes. It means that KTM’s dampen load in a single progressive load rather distrubuting the load through a mechanically advantageous serios of links connected between the swingarm and the shock.

The upside of PDS is that it’s simple, neat and easy to work on. The downside is that from an engineering point of view using a progressive rate system is not as efficinet as a linkage.

KTM argue this fact with graphs of sping rates and tests against linkage system but they do really have an inferior design. The fact is it works well enough for anyone of us to ride without really telling a big difference.

Now you can use those alloy welding rods and weld the linkage up on the rear suspension making PDS and enjoy the whole experience smiley-laughing001.gif

we’re a bit slow in the bush. but i don’t get the problem!?

my worst off was from a small bore ( full sized) RED rooster.

and that was at a lesser speed (?) unknown and i was not being stupid or silly or any other adverse conduct that increases your probability of an off.
