Last week we had a MX meeting at our track and I put it to Connor did he want to race on the Sunday or do a 85cc only, MX school with KTMRAT. No hesitation there, as he immediently chose to do the school. The reality was I couldn’t really afford for him to do both in the one week.
In what appears to be a cash grab by Motorcycling Australia, they bought in a rule last year that all kids must do at least 5hrs training every year in order to qualify for a race license. The schools cost close to $80 and on top of the $235 per annum for a race license, if you have more than one kid racing it can put a real strain on your finances. Plus the cost of purchasing and maintaining a race bike and entry fees to actually race, MA should take a long hard look at the fact they are putting the cost of racing out off reach of the average punter.
Anyhow that is my whinge for the day.
The main reason that Connor chose to do the school with KTMRAT is that they are, in his words “heaps fun”. Even though Dave shows them no mercy when he gives them their assessment of what they are doing wrong. For some reason unknown to us older folk, the kids think the sun shines out of Daves arse and they do whatever he says.
Anyone that has ever tried to teach their son something about riding will know that they take sweet F.A notice of you, but one word from Dave and they are out there doing it!!
If they had ever been out the bush with Dave they would realise what a lunatic he is and would take what he says with a grain of salt…LOL.
The marked improvement I see in Connor’s riding after one of these schools is worth the money paid IMO, it is a pity Dave doesn’t get a majority of the money as most of it goes to MA in insurance and permit fees.
Thanks Dave for another great day from Connor, Alex and George.

Anyhow here are a couple of pics from the day

    Thanks Mick

I am glad Connor enjoyed his Day, I know I did, How did the little man sleep that night, He did real well.

Mate I had a week of carnage with the boys bikes, get this for a list of repairs before race day,
    2 rear tyres,
    3 chains,
    1 rear sprocket – 65,
1 front mud guard Ktm 50 and graphics to suit,
    1 broken muffler – 50, broken frame mount – 85,
Blown front fork seal X 2 bikes,
Rear wheel bearings X 2 bikes,
    Broken ignition cover – 65,
Lost axle bolts for rear axle -50,
    Lost chain roller – 65,
Broken front number plate – 50,
Bent Bars on 65 as well as torn grips,
    Ripped pair of Alpinestars,
Broken peak on new fox Helmet,
    Broken Thor Sentinal Armour,
    3 sets of brake pads,
we used 95 litres of fuel and 2 litres of premix in the four bikes over the 5 days and there is more little stuff to go but I wont bore you anymore.

Mick I worked it out my two boys have done nearly 35 race days worth of effort this week, so all in all it is pretty good, I really dont want to go back to work next week but I have to in order to pay for all the carnage.
Tell Connor I am watching him next race day and he had better come forwards for the starts and slow the clutch down for that fast start, he almost won that reflex race, and also tell him thanks for trying what I said, it is so cool that they try, even when its a little scary.

You are right, if these kids saw me ride in the bush they would think twice, but I have that base covered with the line of “Do what I say not what I do”, or “I am just checking the faster outside line to see how the grip is”, how about “I am testing the latest safety gear” or the fail safe “What? Me do that , no-way that wasn’t close”.

I am so glad that the kids listen and then try, it makes it all worth my while when that happens.

Cant wait for the next school

One Last thing, I think I will have to pay you some more money man, I just paid you that bribe for a little wrap, not photo’s as well, bloody newspaper people, dont think you can get any more out of me by sucking up.

    Thanks Mate

Lets try to ride soon , I need some Big Boy Ride time
