What better way to spend a Saturday morning than in the temperate, moist, tacky, cruisy, loamy single line trails hidden away on the north coast… This really is gods country.

After a few rounds of phone tag i met up with singletrackmind and tdriver north of coffs for my first trepeditious entry into riding this far north… i was concerned about altitude sickness being so far north from Taree but soon realised it may have been too many beers on Friday night.

I few ducks and weaves to start off saw us cross under the highway and hitting single line almost immediately…. wow it is just sooooo close to home. With STM leading and Tdriver supervising my rear… i mean supervising from the rear (just to make sure i didn’t go tits up in the first 5kms i suspect!)

A few dirt roads to link us together but the majority single line through rainforest ridgelines over hill and dale…. the first half of the loop saw me nearly dissapear in Jurasic Park when i hit a fairly deep bog with 0 momentum… Tdriver obviously a man of great experience ….. hung back to ensure i didn’t fill him in with dinosaur bones and muck from the early ages (which by the way is a bitch to remove post ride) we then hit a section called Tunnel Ball?? now i tell you throw all those thoughts of school yard sports aside this was the real thing and was mind blowing covered in single line with a few dirty detours around trees and some awesome tight stuff that got the arms pumping and the heart racing. A quick visit to the widowmaker, which i declined an opportunity to annhilate myself first time around, a tight clay pinch saw my bike, still running, make it to the top with my sorry backside only halfway up…. noone ever said that bike and rider had to make it together to the top did they?

A heap more single trail and a few sneaky lay downs (on my behalf) when i wasn’t paying enough attention soon saw us back at the start much to my dissapointment.. i was ready for another quick 3 hour loop!! from what STM tells me this is one of the loops you guys will be doing in November and god damn it was awesome. For the guys going get ready for a good time!!

Many many thanks to STM for giving me a glimpse of what this part of the country can offer and Tdriver for not hitting me on that down hill, all in all a freaking fantastic way to spend a Saturday morning

    Hey Shell

Glad you had fun and got home without incident B) Always room for one more in this part of the world so I will PM you when we are planning more rides. You certainly hold your own out there and it was great to see you pull up grinning at the end of some of the sections. Even more impressive the way you throw that 250 around when it is not behaving
When someone asks, “did you get your bike up that?”, you can reply YES. It only gets tricky if they ask if you were still on it.
Just to clear anyone up on this incident, Shell lines up a steep clay bank out of a creek and pins it but realised half way up she is not going to make it. This is the point the soft ones throttle off and fall to the ground but not Shell. She wrung that throttle as hard as she could and hit the eject button at the same time. The bike flew over the lip as she slid back down into the dark ravine. Her bike sat patiently on it’s side still running whilst she dragged herself up the face, remounted and was gone.
Later I pulled up to help her over one tricky log and she already had one hand on the bars, one on the rear grab hold and just muscled that little Honda over.
A real ambassador for the dirty ladies out there :woohoo:
    Good onya Shell!!
As ever it was great to catch up with TDriver for a chat and a ride and I look forward to plenty of Summer rain and lots of great loops to come.

    STM,

i know i gave it a 7.5 out of 10…. but in hindsight…..with 10 being tight groomed single line all day with a few knarly hills and some loose ridge lines to break things up a bit….. i will renig and give it a 8.5. The fact that i wanted to go out for more after the morning and that i’ve been re riding it all arvo in my mind tells me it deserves to go up a bit in the scale of things.

thanks again to you and TDriver

    Shell :)

I went out for a bushwalk this afternoon and found the entry to that trail I mentioned to you today. Next loop we will add that one in. You will love it.
    Speak soon

Good onya guys!! Shell certainly holds her own, whether it be on the trails or holding her own in the post ride banter and beer sessions. She is always welcome on any of my rides. Glad you guys have hooked up and had a ride. OBT at work again.

Just red your ride reports and through the post wedding hangover I can say riding Coffs doesn’t hurt as much the next day as beer and Jack daniels :) it sounds like you showed Shell the best of the best and I know that nasty assent out of the gully takes some guts to keep it pinned and I’ve left the bike mid climb a few times too!!
