It isn’t, only splashproof with the little plastic cover you get. They have a waterproof case like the GoPro one but it’s an extra and is supposed to be available at the end of this month.
It’s fine as is on the bike, but you can’t go surfing or diving with it.
Will you get one, the water proof cover? I only ask because if you have a drama in a creek crossing (I have before  ) and are wearing your camera it could be ruined. The camera will then shoot out through the case have they mentioned a quality drop because of that, I know that the hero 2 went to a glass lense for improved picture quality. I am interested in getting Lochie a camera for his mountain biking etc rather than him using my Go-pros because he will lose one shortly  this is the reason for my questions. I am a go pro user and like all the extras and kit with them I must say but these seem like a good enough cheap alternative.
Has anyone worked out yet if they fit a go pro mount?
thanks for your help as well

September 11, 2012 at 12:10 am #229246I’ll try the GoPro mount I have on my helmet tonight mate and confirm one way or the other. It certainly looks the same.
No idea with regard to quality when using the waterproof case, I would assume it’s the same, pretty pointless otherwise.
I might get one, doubt I’ll use it unless I go kayaking or something though. I’ve never had a moment in a creek crossing and don’t really cross any big creeks so I’ll gamble. I’ll fall in one next weekend now, you wait and see!
The only other negative I can think of for the EGO is that it’s viewing angle is narrower than the GoPro. GoPro is 170 degrees whereas the EGO is 130 I think from memory. Again, no biggie for me or Lochie but if you’re keen on that widescreen look it may be a showstopper.

The output of the editing process will only be as good as the input quality of the video.. STM has shown you can do some pretty cool stuff using the basic editing tools… Good camera with good recording will produce good edited outcomes imo… It is just time consuming…I recorded 4 decent length videos at Clarence this past weekend with my LI-Ego and I was impressed.. I recorded 720p @ 60 frames per second… There appears to be be a slight shake in some footage but I’m not sure if it is the Camera or the odd movement of me head while riding… I just bought a bunch of mounts and I’ll be setting up various points on the bike to experiment with…
I recorded a full 14 minute blat through some of the pine singles and the file size raw came in around 1.35 gig.. I think for an average using 720p @ 60 frames per second about 500 meg per 5 minutes.
I had no issues finding the action connect app in the app store not sure why you guys seem to have trouble.. It is a nice little app to pre setup the camera view but unless you have the phone mounted on your bars it is a bit a pain in the a$$ to use imo….
Well said Krusty.
Shooting at 60FPS is the go for slow motion stuff but just be aware that most editing programs will drop every second frame on import so that it defaults back to 30. That means you will have used more card space and more battery for no gain. If you want to keep the footage in 60 make sure you change your import settings.
I suspect any shaking your seeing is from your body movement or from a computer that cannot keep up with such big files. To check that, plug the camera or card directly into a digital TV and see if it is smooth there. Also make sure there is no play in your mounts, it only take a little to show up on your footage. The last cause could be a card that is not class 8 or higher.STM
September 11, 2012 at 12:52 am #229248Thanks for those explanations , Moto , Krusty and STM. I’m slowy getting my head around it now

Have you got the Mac fully RAM’d up?

Thanks for all your answers
If it goes through another lense or cover the quality has to be reduced I can see when I watch the footage without the case and with the case on the TV at home there is a difference. You more than likely won’t see it on a YouTube video . I was just wondering had it been mentioned by the maker, I am just nervous because I got ripped by a manufacturer a few weeks ago because they didn’t tell the full story  and now I am stuck with the piece of shit. I guess if you never plan on runing the water proof cover then its no probelm
Thanks in advance re the Gopro mounts
I will do a post about the other thing soon

Just running two of the four slots and it is running well.

September 11, 2012 at 3:58 am #227209Thanks STM…. I didn’t realize or even think about the 60 frame being forced down to 30 frame during the import… I told iMovie NOT to optimize the video on import so not sure if that has any effect?
On the GoPro mounts working with the LI-Ego… I took a punt and bought the bag of mounts as well as the front helmet mount. While studying the pictures it appears the Ego will work with the GoPro mounts… It seems to me I can attach a GoPro stock arm mount to the ego camera which then means it can mount to any standard GoPro mount.. I’ll know by end of week hopefully… If it doesn’t work I’ll be happy to pass the GoPro stuff onto someone who has a GoPro…
Look forward to your feedback Moto on the clip mounting out of the box… I’m going to try and post some of the footage I took this past weekend this week…
I’m waiting for the iMac refresh that should come after the iPhone 5 release on the 12th of September.. Rumor has it the iMacs will get the retina display in the next refresh…. I’ll be buying a 27 inch iMac with the SSD drive as the OS drive and a 1 TB data drive with 16 gig of memory and the secondary 27 inch apple monitor… Insert Homer Drool……….. :woohoo:
I have spent the last year architeching an Audio Visual / Digital Media Solution across 10 sites of the Austral Asia Region for the Client I work for… The setup includes, standard meeting room audio visual technology, Video Conference Rooms as well as specialized telepresence rooms catering for 18 people, a Digital Signage solution and the highlight for me is at the corporate headquarters we have built a purpose built media and studio room… The Studio Room is getting one of the these babies… http://www.akadesign.co.uk/site_product/promedia/promedia.html
I’m also lucky enough to be professionally trained via work on Apples Final Cut Pro Audio/Video editing suite that goes witht he above… Oh happy days….
September 11, 2012 at 8:06 am #229259Surprisingly the LI EGO mount DOES NOT fit curved GoPro mount. However, it can be modified to fit. The issue is with the raised ridge than runs down the centre of the GoPro mount, it’s marginally wider than the corresponding tract in the EGO mount. It could easily be made to fit by either trimming the raised ridge on the GoPro mount or opening the tract in the EGO mount.
It’s a bit of a pain but would only take 5 minutes per mount. The hinged section with the screwed bolt looks the same as the GoPro also if you had the GoPro mount you could probably just swap that out. I’m sure Krusty can confirm this when he gets his pack of goodies.
September 11, 2012 at 11:50 pm #229273I just received this response from the Australian distributor of Liquid Image regarding the waterproof case and use of GoPro mounts:
“we are waiting for an update from Liquid image for this. At this stage Waterproof case is due end of Sept, but mounts are TBC for sometime in October
The Ego will work with many go pro mounts by leaving the elbow bracket in the bottom of the Ego and then going into a Go Pro mount”
September 12, 2012 at 12:00 am #229260Krusty if you dont use that mount kit you have ordered I will pay you for it and take it off your hands
Moto thanks for finding out about the mounts etc

September 14, 2012 at 9:30 am #227210Ok guys just got mine today and I’ve been to Liquid image and the Action connect app for ios is under construction so you wont be able to down load it for a few days yet unless you have an android phone.
I managed to down load it today on my android tab and its a great App.
On another note the base does fit the go pro mounts and thanks to moto i used a small file to reduce the middle rail by 1mm and it slides on with no worries.I also got a replay XD1080 camera at a reduced price today normally $339 + postage I got it at $299 including postage from gadgetcity.com.au and have been playing with that so on the sunny corner ride i’ll try and have both cameras working together to see the difference in footage and post some up?
September 14, 2012 at 9:36 am #227211September 16, 2012 at 1:12 pm #227212Ok Action connect is now up and running again for the ios or iphones for the ego camera.
September 17, 2012 at 8:42 am #227213Ok my bag of tricks showed up today… I can confirm what Moto already has confirmed that the stock LI-Ego arm mount will not slot themselves into a GoPro flat or curved base mount. However I can easily attach the LI-Ego Camera to the Stock GoPro Camera Arm Mount. This then allows me to use any and all GoPro Mount options.
I would have thought LI would have used an arm mount that would be universal to the GoPro base mount leveraging off the huge market of mounts, mount plates and mount arms GoPro already have available.
Why re-invent the wheel eh?
So I now have two curved base mounts and one flat base mount and boat load of mount arms to make use of…. What to do…………… 👿
