Looking at the comparison on youtube it seems to make a difference. Stm should have a great idea as he has owned both!!

TB is right in that it makes a bigger difference on a TV than it does compressed on YouTube.
I just noticed that they had compare new with old.

Am sure he told me that it would only be noticable of a LCD TV not when down to 720 on youtube when I spoke with him a few months ago  well I thought he did  Old age maybe on my behalf

Is the EGO capable of 1080? If so both at their best in 1080 would be the test wouldn’t it? Shouldn’t the test be both out of their covers, then both in? I only ask because this morning someone quoted dust standard numbers to me saying the EGO is the same as the gopro out of its cover.

Yes, the EGO does 1080 at 30fps, same as the GoPro. A test at 1080 would have been better as it’s probably the rate most will record in?

The cover question is subjective. The GoPro needs the cover, the EGO doesn’t. For dirtbiking, I don’t plan on using the cover for the EGO. It would still be nice to see a comparo.

Though, in fairness, they both are pretty good quality regardless so it’s only really splitting airs either way. At the price you can pick an EGO for it is hard to look past…….until the HeroHD3 is released

Your right KR it’s not on their site , I can’t find it either , I used a link on their site which takes you to their Facebook page but it does say ” Coming Soon ” for the accessories they are advertising.

Hopefully soon for all you EGO owners :)

I had an interesting thing happen to my camera today. I mounted it to the top of my helmet with a Gopro helmet mount modified as per Moto’s post. I then went and crash tested it by throwing myself and the RMX down the road (No need to thank me it’s the lengths I’m prepared to go to test the camera). My helmet hit the ground and although the camera didn’t take a direct hit it has a small scrape and was covered in dirt. I wasn’t turned on at the time (would have been good footage) and I didn’t have the cover fitted.

Later on when I went to use the camera it turned on fine and I attempted to connect it to Wifi when the camera froze up. It was turned on but wouldn’t do anything, I couldn’t even turn it off. No matter what button I pressed nothing worked. I then remembered there is a small reset button in next to the memory card slot. I managed to find a small stick and push the reset. This turned the camera off. It then started back up as per normal and worked fine for the rest of the day. Not sure if everyone knows about the reset but if you have a similar issue give it a go.

On the mounting issue I will be looking for another way to mount the camera, on top of the helmet is a pain. I spent the day ducking and weaving but still managed to get it hooked on a few trees.

It’s one of reasons the contour and it’s sleek side mount would be good. I said to my mate the other day after riding down a trail how shit it would have been with a camera stuck to my head.

Good work on the extensive product testing Scotty. I didn’t ride last weekend and wont be for next couple either so haven’t had the chance to test mine our yet.

I had a play with mounting the camera this morning, I hate it on top of the helmet. I did a bit of a mock up and I like it out the front of the helmet. It sis quite solid the way it is mounted but I will try and play around making a neater mount setup.

I decided to grab a GoPro handlebar mount kit (and seatpost for MTB’s) along with the full curved mount kit at a surf shop in the US.

As Krusty mentioned, just leaving the standard elbow on the Ego it fits any GoPro mount.

So I’m gonna try out the handlebar mount first, like others have said I’m not keen on the camera on the top of my helmet, just asking for it to get snagged …. I’m aiming for the chest harness when it’s released and also rigging a mount for the mouthpiece of my helmet like Scotty has done.

The waterproof case is available now for around $40 and is waterproof to 40m. Looks pretty good I reckon. See here for more details.

I’m going to try running my camera stuck to the chest of my body armour on the weekend. I figure it won’t be much different to using a chest strap and I have 2 of those massive flat mounts that come with the camera so it won’t go anywere.

See how I go. I took my first bit of footage last weekend, man it looks slow! The camera was angled a bit too low as well (despite me checking the viewing angle on my phone) as I was constantly trying to look up when watching it on the computer :D The quality was good though at 720.

I’ve also sussed out a good sport to run on it on the side mouthpiece of my helmet but I need to sort out a curved mount to run it there.
