AnonymousAttention Ollie:
Here is a 26l tank that you could fit to the WR450 for the big trips. It has Australian Safari Team Yamaha heritage.

Anonymousraceytracy and i have been trying to run the nx out of fuel to see how far it can go. so far we have loaded it up with panniers, camping gear, and raceytracy. we know that it is 13.5 litres to reserve , which is not much. but that gets us about 265km in mixed conditions on good fuel. the front wheel is 15% smaller than the speedo is designed for. therefore we should go 15% more than that. so far reserve has got us another 100km. we should run out soon.
we are loading it up to go for a ride on the weekend. probably stop in at a vmx ride that i am meant to be racing at lake glenbawn. may sleep at the track or find some where in barrington tops to sleep
there is a 32 litre tank in oz but it is black. i can get a clear or red one from italy on the next shipment. not sure if i’ll need it. what do you reckon?
November 26, 2008 at 2:02 am #107024got an acerbis 18L tank for the CFR450X a while ago.
only held 15L though.
returned it to dealer for full refund.
now have a Safari 21L tank which I am yet to test.
worried that fuel below outlet (ie down the sides) won’t get to carby.
supplier guarantees bike movement will force fuel back up into the ‘dam’ etc.
Less work and more riding is in order.

AnonymousWith all these ‘trail’ type rides I can’t believe I’m even considering getting a bigger tank for the pumpkin. How big is the standard BRP tank TB? I reckon 15.5 litres would return enough K’s for most rides. I get over 100K’s riding my bike hard in the bush from a 9.5l tank.
November 26, 2008 at 2:18 am #113144If you want to see some country Moto and get out and find there is more to this grand country then the Watagans you will need a tank that holds at least 15 + litres, standard BRP tank is 12 I think and in the Watos on a hard fast no stop ride with some guns I was on reserve at 73klms and pushing it at 82kms, I have a 16.5 litre and at Yellow Mountain this year at race pace I couldnt get 160kms out of it. Trailriding I have got 220kms++ from the same 16 litre tank and I have a 28 / 30 litre mother tank I have never fitted it to the bike but would hope for 430 kms plus trail pace.
The Capertee rides and the Mittagong run you need at least 140kms between fills
Get a tank Moto, will take you on some nice rides, 3rd 4th gear flowing leaf covered twin trails that will give you a chubby

AnonymousMy bike is pretty good fuel economy. Even when going hard. Although I don’t know what fuel consumption would be like at near top speed for the whole tank (Yellow Mountain style). I rode 50K’s to the last ride, 35K’s almost as fast as I could go down the firetrail to the camp ground and then did the whole morning loop of the ride, just hitting reserve before we got back. That was with 2/3 tank of fuel as my tank had a big hole in it.
If 140 is required between fills at trail pace I’d easy make that with a 15.5 litre tank.
How much are they roughly? $500 ish?
The only problem is after 150K’s I will need another tank to store the oil for the oil change :p
January 27, 2009 at 7:13 am #107025As an FYI, IMS do a range of different size tanks for various bikes as well.
I got my 18 or thereabouts litre tank from Vince Strang and was lucky to get it prior to the price rise. When checking around though VSM was not the cheapest (was within a few dollars) but offered free delivery and had the tank in stock.
But, I was looking heavily at buying and importing from http://www.justgastanks.com/store/ but then the financial crap happened and the dollar diving meant it was much of a muchness to buy locally.
