June 8, 2009 at 9:02 pm #138667RIDE REPORT……The Saturday.
We arrived at Bulls place on Saturday just in time, to see everyone kitting up for the afternoon ride. A quick unload and I was kitted up and ready to join the pack for a quick loop. About 15 bikes headed off from Bull’s shed with me about mid pack. Because of the constant traffic leaving Bull’s place, the very first section of track into the bush is a bit of a quagmire, I was following a WR450 as we entered the bush, as it turns out I was following a little to close and with one small twist of the throttle,Finzy filled me in real good. A nice way to start a ride, covered in mud and my Goggles rendered useless!!
Once we were through the slop, the tracks were absolutely perfect in my books, just wet enough to make it massive amounts of fun!!
It soon became evident that these boys were all seasoned riders and weren’t out there for a picnic and they were setting a cracking pace. The roostage at some points was unbelievable and believe it or not the 250 2 bangers were the worst offenders!!
Bill lead us to a hill and at the bottom he gave a bit of a riders briefing. We were told that a little bit up the trail there is a log across to track and from there it got really step and slippery, so once over the log we were told to just keep on the gas and you’ll be right……right.About 8 bikes headed off up the hill before I got a crack at it, once I got going up the trail,I come across a log across the track which I presumed was “the Log” so I was really sending the XR along pretty quick setting myself for the climb, only to round a bit of a corner at speed and actually finding “the Log”. It wasn’t pretty but I got over it at speed and started the climb up the hill.
I wasn’t far up the hill when I came across the first of the carnage, a bike and rider down, sorry mate but at that stage it was every man for himself and I kept on the gas with the XR still tractoring nicely, then another rider down, then another and another as I got further up the hill. I could then see the top and it actually went through my head that I was going to make it,so I gassed the XR so as to make a spectacular arrival at the top and I dunno what happened but the old girl broke traction and turned 90 degrees and hit the bank. At this stage I bailed and I saw the riderless XR get a whole heap of air and disappear over the bank and land upside down in the bush.
I climbed down the bank and turned the fuel off on her while I waited for some help to get her out of the predicament it was in. I sat beside the track and waited, all the while waiting for someone to get as high up the hill as I was,so they could help me. After about 5 minutes of listening to the revving and cursing going on down the hill below me.I realised that no one else was going to make it up to help me.
So I climbed back down the bank and with much huffing and puffing, got the XR upright and pointed up the hill, sort of. Two kicks and to my surprise she started and I began tractoring through the bush in the general direction of the track, just as I was about to make it back to the actual trail, one of the diehards from down the hill riding a YZ250 reach the spot where I was, only at that very moment loose control and crash head first into me!! No harm done and he soon got going and made the last 10 or so meters to the top. Bill who had actually made it to the top,was unaware that I was just below him heard the XR start and came down to give me a hand and with a tiny little push the XR was at the top.
At the top I was surprised and happy to see that Bear was there on his XR400,so the hill had beaten all starters, bar Bill on his Kato 525, the Kamakazi Bello boy on his YZ250 and me and Bear on the mighty XR’s!!.
Bear had hurt his wrist in an earlier tumble and wasn’t real keen on riding back down the hill to where all the others were stuck so I went with him via the main trails back to Bill’s, as I was absolutely spent as well.
No sooner did Bear and I arrive back so did the rest of the guys, a quick change of clothes ensued and the first of what was many beers were cracked and the festivities began!!The girls made them selves busy in the shed kitchen preparing food to feed the masses (about 35 people), all the while sipping on their preferred choice of beverages.
Some bike maintainence was required, so some guys got in and changed tyres or whatever needed doing. One notable moment was when Ollie was putting a new tyre on and he pinched the tube.He blamed me for helping, a patch kit was soon produced and he patched the tube only to have it go flat again.
Here is the look on Ollie’s face at the very moment h erealised that he had forgotten to take the foil off the patch before sticking it on the tube.
Here are some random pics of the festivities that ensued during the Saturday evening
Inside Bull’s shed, notice the XR with no wheel,it also got it’s tube pinched by someone who will remain nameless (clue….their name starts with RiderX)
At the fire
Kellie, who had consumed 2 bottles of Red wine was giving all and sundry whatfor and having a generally great time started to go down hill at this stage and here are a few views through her eyes as the night progressed.
Can still see straight. Kinda
Lessa and Kylie, having a good time.
Are you guys OK? You look kinda blurry hic
The red wine was really starting to kick in
Hey Kell, are you OK, maybe you should go to bed??
All in all everyone had a great night and started to drag them selves off to bed by 1am in preparation for Sundays ride.Which turned out to be action packed.
Sundays report to follow as time allows.June 8, 2009 at 10:02 pm #138694RIDE REPORT …..continued
Sunday dawned nice and sunny until about 7am when it started to thunder and the clouds rolled in. In no time at all the heavens opened up and dumped copious amounts of rain on us and it looked as though the ride wouldn’t go ahead.
The girls made themselves busy making breakfast for everyone while we waited to see what the weather was going to do.Bill got busy making Coffee for the masses.
Everyone got feed and by then the sun was out again and it was decided the ride would g ahead regardless of how wet the trails would be.
RiderX and Bill checked the maps to set out an alternative route as the rain would hav made some of the planned ride unpassable.
It was really wet outside the shed!!
Everyone kitted up and in no time we had 23 starters. It was also great to see that amongst the starters were 4 XR600’s and a XR400.
RiderX likes to be prepared..I dunno what he was actually doing at this stage…. Nice new riding gear there X!!!
First stop was at the Devils Punchbowl.
From there we headed for Garbage trail ,which has a rather interesting hill climb on it.
I rounded a corner only to find the track blocked by a Kato on its side and Bill rolling around on the ground clutching his knee. This caused everyone to bank up on the trail and it was interesting to watch everyone’s attempts at the hill.
The hill was showing no mercy and there were boys crashing out left right and centre.
I tractored the Xr up the hill past all the carnage and out of the corner of my eye I couaght view of Tripper on The Cat XR way off in the Bush and thought”typical”LOL.
Once again the XR got me to the top with minimal drama.
At the top we waited for the rest of the guys to scratch up the hill. A few guys took to easy way out and rode round and avoided the stupidity..
We regrouped at the top.Ollie made it under his own steam
Bill deamed himself OK to continue to lead so we headed of again,we did another 15km of awesome trails, the most notable being center Ridge Trail which was fast to say the least. At the end of the trail everyone was hyped and I have never seen such a more pumped group of riders in my life, they were all laughing and yahooing after the high sped run through that trail. All except for Bill who had copped another whack in the knee and decided he had best go back to his place.
Not liking to see a rider leave a ride on their own I went back with Bill and the ride continued being lead by Bill’s brother in law Scott.
The ride went for another 30km and going on the chatter on their return the boys had a great time.
An interesting development was Bud’s WR450 had its front brake caliper torn completely off!!!
After the ride the usual beers and bullcrap session started and all was good!!!
Once again Tripper’s Cat XR didn’t miss a beat and he had a ball!!
Sunday evening was spent much the same as Saturday night with a social drink around the fire.although it wound up a little earlier.
Bill has the most awesome set up for riding and having a general good time, not only is it great for bike riding it is also a great place to be a kid.!!
Here is George showing his style on the Big tramp. There was horse riding that all the girld enjoyed as well.
On Monday there wasn’t as many starters as the day before as Moose and I decided we would take the young fellas on a trail ride. We had one 65,2x 85’s and a 125 with us,here is a pic I took at and interesting shack near Bills.
All in all we had an awesome weekend, that my family and myself will remember for years to come,Thanks Bull,Kez and everyone else that helped for all the work that went into a great weekend!!!!!!!
June 8, 2009 at 11:41 pm #138695Good report Mick

Don’t forget the medicine that I left you Bull. That stuff can cure anything, well in the short term anyway:laugh:
Thanks again for yesterday, I have re-ridden most of it in my head several times over. The weather this week looks perfect so I wish you a quick recovery so that you are good to go on the weekend.
