July 21, 2009 at 5:46 am #144663May I ask on the subject of retards, do they use any old carcass that comes along or do they use particular brands for retarding?
Just wondering cause if I have a retread remoulded out of say a Carlsbad with stiff sidewalls and it doesn’t grip, then Ollie gets one remoulded out of a Dunlop 736 and his works well wouldn’t that play an important part in rider evaluation?

Yes it will and i think ollies brand only uses some brand cases and also have to run a lot less air pressure but am only new to them there very hard feels like there is 10 psi in them off the rim

I used a S12 140 Michelin case when I tested mine Blue, as I always use those tyres and could use a Mousse as I always use an S12 with a mousse, thought that was fair, apples V apples
And yes they retread any case

July 21, 2009 at 6:50 am #144674I am suss on Retreads on bikes, because the sidewall influence is so much more important than on a car or truck, I would never use one on a roadbike (do they even make them?) cause in the back of my mind at 240ish would be….what if that tyre flies apart now?
having said that I have not had a great run of tyres on the rear of the YZ and i think as one of my 4T riding mates said “It spins up so damn quick off idle it shreds tyres” but if you put a hard crappy “budget” tyre on the spin becomes unpredictable and almost unrideable. Luckily I have a brand spankers S-12 & M-12 fronts hanging in my shed, but the rears I cannot keep up to the little bitch, it’s demolished a 952 in 5 rides, and that’s a crap “value” tyre for longevity.
If one keeps going one is going to run bloody Kenda Parker DTs or even worse Millvilles, just to get a bit of life out of them.

July 21, 2009 at 7:23 am #144676Bruce,tyres can be a very personal thing and I have gotten into many a heated debate:laugh: I will only get name brand tyres from my supplier,if you want a Michelin I should be able to get it:dry: I myself prefer Metzeler MC5 cases. I can gaurantee the type of rear tyre but not the front as the retreading process removes any identification. They are guaranteed not to chunk knobs or spin the casing off. The northern chapter boys have really started to take a shine to them, and these guys ride a lot more bush K’s than me:( I can post two tyres for around $15 to most places a couple of dollars less to NSW.
From my experience and the type of riding I do I can get at least 8 good rides out of one. They are based on a Motocross tread pattern and dont like extra long hardpack or dirt/tar roads (from feedback I have received) all I can suggest is Give one a try if you like it you will just started to save yourself some serious cash,if you dont well then its only cost you $75 any info you want just give me a hoy and I will try and help out otherwise just go to http://www.mxretreads.com.au

BC[/quote]went riding with a bloke on a wr450 on the weekend he had a kenda parker tyre on it had done less than 10hrs and it was shagged that bike was all over the place its linkage rear suspension was bouncing everywhere prably should have lent him a screwdriver
July 21, 2009 at 11:36 am #144696Ok Ollie you’re on, when I’m ready to replace the rear tyre, I’ll try a retread on a medium/softish sidewall carcass maybe a Dunlop 736 type carcass, I go by feel on tyre pressure often adjusting it during the ride to acomodate the mood I’m in.
I’ll yell at you when I’m ready, sometime in next few rides so the Missus can swallow my next “need to replace this now Darlin” story without looking foottappy and stuff at me.
July 21, 2009 at 11:57 am #144782No Problems Bruce,I will go and check on the inventory and let you know what I have in stock and you can then make your decision (cant promise a 736,but i know I do have some Dunlops) I get twenty five in at a time and am about half way through the last order.
Rider X let me in on his tyre pressure testing method as well, similar to yours and Bull and I had no problems getting up this really slick clay based hill.OllieB)
July 21, 2009 at 12:11 pm #144796Thats good Bruce, be a good test on a smoker that someone can ride a bit quicker than other two smoker retreads users and on a Yamaha with some poke, especially one that demolished a 952 in 5 rides
