Loose Spokes

Hi Guys, recently had both front and rear rims relaced by a local bike shop. Rode the 450 today for the first time since getting it back from the shop, only to find 2 spokes on the rear wheel had come loose at the nipple on the rim. What can I put on the thread if anything to stop them vibrating loose. Also what should I not put on them as I still need to adjust them after rides. The ride I went on was only about 10k’s to local footy ground and back and was all on the black top. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers FEZ.

I’m no expert Fez but I belive it is normal for new spokes to loosen up a bit until they settle in but they shouldn’t have come that loose so quickly I wouldn’t have thought. I think anything you put on the thread to stop them coming undone will give trouble if and when it comes time for adjustment, you just need to keep an eye on them until they bed in. What you can do is cable tie your spokes together where they meet in the middle to stop them swinging about if they come out completely or break.
You should probably talk to the guy that fitted them

put some “tuffs” on it fez, like the old bmx ones. they will look coooool:laugh: :laugh: :laugh: :laugh:

I dont use a tension wrench you get a feel for it, just use a good fitting spoke spanner

I have had spokes come loose in minutes, other take months after initial build, some stretch quickly, I find the stainless don’t as much, usually just get the spoke spanner out and nip them up firm and keep an eye on them, after a while the whole assembly beds in and settles down. I don’t think as a rule they vibrate loose, cause if they did you’ve got issues with the wheel and suspension as a whole.
