I felt a bit of a vibration when changing gears on the BRP super commuter on Saturday, actually first noticed a couple of weeks ago but quickly forgot about it. :blush: I noticed one of the sprocket bolts was missing and the remaining five were all finger tight :S
The sprocket is rooted one for Spud’s collection :laugh: The hub is a bit rooted might be able to do something with it any idea’s appreciated. What are the alternantives iie Talon warp9 torpedo7 etc ?

June 17, 2013 at 11:37 am #243861Let me guess Torpedo 7 sprocket bolts? I only ask because I had a set here a while ago on a build I was doing for a guy and three of them stretched before I could get them to the tension using a tension wrench :ohmy:
I may have a hub ummm, need to look tomorrow. If you have to buy a set get a set of Talon hubs, the bearings last for years, look around a second hand set they will pop up. I can loan you my motard wheels and mud guard for a few months while you search around if you want
Let me know, they have good tyres etc

Im not sure about the origin of the sprocket bolts as they came fitted on the bike when I purchased it. Pretty sure they are not torpedo7 tho. I do have another wheel but it has got a knobby on it :laugh:
I will keep a look out for some hubs.

Take the motard wheels for a run mate, i would love to here your thoughts of the BRP with some road tires on it :woohoo: i reckon thats a recipe for a few big fines :ohmy: then again maybe leave them in storage TB :laugh:

Ha ha Pete I know what you are saying mate I had a bit of a run in with Constable Plod in a highway patrol car just recently :laugh: ( got away with it though luckily)
anyone know where I can get black plastics for the BRP ? I want to radically change the appearance of the bike :blush:

Yeah I can vouch for that! I have seen smoke coming off those tyres on the Oxley Highway!

Look Loki they have loctite on themYep definatley kicking myself for not doing this myself :angry: When I replace sprockets I put the stuff on the threads, under the countersunk head and under the sprocket where it mounts to the hub, not this time tho

Sux that your hub is damaged :SJuly 1, 2013 at 12:29 pm #243901So Ive been a bit busy at work and havnt had much of a chance to do anything on the XR. I decided that the flogged out flanges on the hub could be repaired with Devcon so I got stuck into it.
I used a wire Buff on a electric drill to fully buff the Hub flanges.
Then give it a real good degrease with some Brake cleaner
Next up I mixed up some Aluminium Devcon and applied with a spatula.
I found some bolts of the right diameter and wrapped some electrical tape around the threads to removal easier.I applied some CT18 to the Back of a new sprocket to act as a release agent. and bolted it up nice and firm this will force the devcon into all the right places.
This is with the sprocket removed prior to filing smooth
This is with the devcon filed smooth pretty happy with the result
Fitted up the new Sunstar 44 tooth sprocket. previous was a 45 and I could only get 156KM/h out of the BRP hoping to crack 160 with this one !
didnt hold back with the Loctite 243
Under the Bolt heads as well
Back of the Hub Bolts tightened up to FT 😆
Tada Finished product
I will be keeping a close check on the tension over the next few weeks and If it fails which I dont think it will I will weld up the holes using the TIG and redrill. But for now am really happy with the result.

MurphJuly 1, 2013 at 9:38 pm #245360Interesting idea Ollie just a thought, Locite 243 is thread locker from memory and you having pasted everywhere trying to glue the sprocket on may actually be your undoing. If you have enough between the hub flange and the sprocket (and the picture sure looks that way) you end up with a layer between after it dries and becomes brittle the torque of the BRP will turn it to powder. Once that happens the sprocket will no longer be flush against the hub i.e. loose again and the Devcon will last seconds.
From experience and it is only my opinion you would have been better going with a good dry FLAT mounting surface on the hub and sprocket. If you wanted to use some locite you should use 609 sparingly.
I have had a bad experience as an apprentice with locite like you have done there (Engine failure) and the words of my boss as he kicked my arse always ring in my ears “With locite Yager some is good but more is not better”Good luck I hope it works
