Anonymousi liked the apparent lightness of the burg. however, i found chris’s set up of the suspension not to my preference, note: he is probably a little heavier and faster then me and remember it is adjustable
i found that i had to gear shift a lot more on the burg. that maybe due to me not knowing how to get the best out of the trick clutch. i felt i would change the gearing a little (note: i was also reluctant to rev it because it was so new)
i would have loved to take it on the mx track (it was being watered at the time). i reckon it would have been great around that.
reaffirmed. if i bought a 4t, it would be a burg.
I still like my 2t better (I’m a minority there) but I would recommend a 390 burg to most trail and enduro riders.5/5 smilies
thanks guys

AnonymousThe reports I heard were that the 250 was a more ‘angry’ machine but it would have been good to compare anyway. The 200 was a handful when on the pipe with 45psi in the tyres
I’d like a go on Husky 300 and a new TM 300 now to compare. I did like the Kato though, the newer suspension felt more dialled than mine too.
No you haven’t suggested that before, what a good idea though  Have I ever suggested a 300 for you

I rode an assortment of bikes on Sunday – The 530, 450 and 250 2 smoke KTM’S plus the 390 Burg.
My vote goes to the Burg, that was one nice bike. I still like my WR more than any of the bikes that I test rode but some consideration has to be given that they were straight out of the box and no bike is perfect out of the box. You always need change things before a bike feels totally good.
It was still a very much appreciated opportunity to try different bikes back to back like we did.
Another big thankyou to Chris and Daniel from Sutto’s for letting us have the opportunity

September 29, 2009 at 12:07 pm #154483I’m interested to hear what you 450 riders thought of the power, revability and weight of the 400 and 390 compared to your machines.
September 30, 2009 at 12:54 am #154491
AnonymousI didn’t ride the 400 but the 390 was as revvable as my bike (’08’ 450). It wasn’t quite there power wise but it wouldn’t be a hinderence in all but the fastest of rides. Put it this way, I wouldn’t be concerned about stepping off my 450 onto a 390.
The only thing i would say is that I didn’t get to ride it up at high speed so don’t know how it really goes top end wise, that is likely where the difference will be. I did have the Berg flat knacker in 3rd though a few times…..
September 30, 2009 at 1:55 am #154523So what are the pros and cons of a 390 or 400 vs a 450? I’m curious since from what I understand they weigh the same so expected that it would rev faster and be more responsive. If its just less power than you may as well de-tune a 450 with a map switch.
What am I missing?
September 30, 2009 at 2:42 am #154555
AnonymousThe 400 has been tuned to be more a smooth power than the 450 so everyone tells me. You could detune the 450, I don’t know how you do it easily though. The 2 seetings on offer from KTM are hardly any different on the 4 strokes.
The 390 doesn’t rev any harder or quicker, and if I was to get a Berg I’d go for the 450, unless I really liked the 570 which I haven’t ridden.
September 30, 2009 at 5:09 am #154559Perhaps the on the fly tuning will improve with EFI. Alternatively maybe you could run a different accelerator throttle cam to adjust to slippery conditions that require less instant power for traction.
I’ll have a chat with shane about how he’s marketing them next time I’m in the shop. I’m still curious what I’d progress to when I’m ready for a new bike but I feel like I’m left with either a 310 or a 250 with a big bore kit. I’ve ridden the 300 but I’m a way off needing a bike that powerful yet so perhaps I should ride the 200 and 250 to compare.
Cheers.

Anonymousracy left a husaberg poster out where i could see it last night. and it is her birthday on monday.
did she mention anything to you crew over the weekend?
October 1, 2009 at 2:58 am #154688
AnonymousShe said to me she would love for you to spend some money and buy a 570 Berg for her to grow into and that she’d be happy for me to ride it until that day
I’ve just priced up the 200, 250 and 300 smokers from KTM Newcastle and Sutto’s. I needed to go get some more baffle stuff to repack Tyne exhaust, it was a bad move seeing the bikes again……
