Well Galey’s Mad Monday has been run. 11 starters for the morning loop and a few less for the afternoon. I can’t remember the last time I went on a ride and seen so many two strokes, they easily outnumbered the four bangers. I’m not sure how much of today’s ride is planned for his grade 4/5 birthday loop but there was some great trails today. We road rocks, singles, rocks, hills, rocks, then some more singles with hills and the famous Sunny Corner loam, aka rocks. Surprisingly through all that no flats but there may have been a holed case, ouch.
The high light would have been the afternoon singles with gave most a good workout, my clutch hand was wrecked.I managed to get a some video on my phone.
May 14, 2012 at 2:25 am #221741Bugger I’ve done a Boony and introduced myself again. Is there some techo, nerdy guru, moderator type person out there that can move this to the appropriate place.
May 14, 2012 at 7:37 am #221751Scotty,
Thanks for getting some footage and taking the time to post it up. Nice to see plenty of 2st on the ride. There were some cranky ones in your video.
How about Wazzup heading East on that new hill. He did give it a couple of fair cracks. Thanks to all those that contributed to the Madness in their own way.
Adam, Madmaniac, Homey,Gocman,Medogrocket,Mal5.1,Scotty,Wolfie and Wazzup.More later.
May 14, 2012 at 9:21 am #221761A hardy team was assembled ready for some Sunny Corner Madness consisting of Wazzup (XR400), GOCMAN ,MadManiac(ktm300), Scotty(RMX250)Homey(Berg300),MedogRocket(Big mother 570 Berg),Mal5.1(Christophe Nambotin GasGas300) Wolfie(ktm450)Adam(ktm350).
Straight into the pine single with no issues then over to a slippery rocky downhill and no dramas. A easy /hard split with a new little hill section in the pines and a bypass around the madness. Wazzup,Adam and Gocman got lost as the trail was hard to see in spots ,so super sweep Mal and I set them straight.
A super rocky downhill trail was bypassed for a rocky downhill trail due to the group skill level, which ended up at the Dozer track for Homey and I to roll down. This has been earmarked for LC,riderX and Ev to ride up without doing a ghosty.
2 and 3 steps were missed out and as Mal suggested these are a must for the grade 4/5 ride and I agree. The tunnel of love caught out Adam and Wolfie. It is always abit slippy here as it has lots of shade during the day. Well done to Wolfie for giving it a fair crack.
The Ski run was bypassed but Wazzup had a out of shape moment, then again who doesnt on that thing, and dropped the xr4. No harm done thought Wazzup, but fuel coming out is OK , dark black stuff is not OK. The old girl was quickly patched up and we continued on to camp for the BBQ lunch where we said farewell to Adam,Mal and Medog.
Back on the trail we headed for the ZigZag hill we most having no issue. galey’s was next and Gocman and Maniac feature in Scotty’s video on this hill.
Once again Wolfie gave it a fair crack , punching above his ride grade, nearly looping out a few times. Wazzup was also keen to master this hill but a lack of momentum halted his charge.Time for a grade 3 trail ride we followed the cycle track out the the very rutted 3 stage hill.( see Mal5.1 pic

May 14, 2012 at 9:23 pm #221774Another Mad Monday in the Sunny Corner Loam went down a treat !
The fresh 1 degree in temperature didn’t seem all that bad, the sun was out and no wind. It was great to catch up with old and new faces.
Galeys BBQ lunch in the back of his trailer hit the spot.
As usual the trails were awesome, I do suggest that you have decent tyres if your in Galeys group for the Birthday Ride, the ground gets slippery with some sections of clay and the typical loose loam of Sunny Corner. ( makes life soooo much easier )Galey and Mal thanks for leading and sweeping, top job as always.
May 14, 2012 at 10:14 pm #221744hey gocman i thought you were tryn to make another dozer track when we come across you when your bike was being pulled up the side of the hill  , but the skid marks on the main track indecated something else happened ,would you like to enlighted what was going on
May 14, 2012 at 10:21 pm #221745Found a bit more video on my phone of Hommie.
May 14, 2012 at 10:51 pm #221789:whistle: Haha, I was hoping that would of went unnoticed.
Anyway, we all regrouped and the decision was made to head back to camp for lunch, Galey was leading so he took off and I thought I’ll have a run with him. 👿
We were on a fire trail and the finely tuned 300 was in warp speed and coming into a corner, I couldn’t pull it up in time. It was like it was in slow motion I thought if I turned bars to go around the corner ( Mals suggestion )
the back end will be all over the place, there was a bit of a drop off and the bike came to a stop just over the edge of the hill.
So I’m trying to pull the mighty 300 back onto the fire trail and Mal gave me a hand while having a good old laugh ( thanks buddy )
I turned around thinking that only Mal was there , but the whole group was watching on ( how embarrassment  )

Nice work Wolfie.
Mal5.1, tell me you got that on the GoPro!
Gocman , you should know by now that you cant run with the Galey! I was wondering what the big delay was. Yes turning the bars helps going around corners, but as what you did going straight on helps you keep braking hard with the meat of the tyre rather than on it edge. Then again sometimes you can lean it into the corner and brake carefully with the front and slide it around the corner with the rear. It also allows you to use more of the corner and if you are lucky you might even have a berm on the outside of the corner to rail or get ejected. Just watch Mal5.1 a bit more when he isnt sweeping. You were going warp speed on the freshly rebuilt 300.
Two banger I will PM you a list of Mad Monday dates. Tuff tuesdays dont work for me.
Coaching clinic over
GaleyMay 15, 2012 at 1:15 am #221796Thanks Again Galey for a great day,
And a big shout out to the other guys that ventured into the forest and made it look far to easy…
Yes i did have a couple/few moments which may have turned to frustration by the end of the day but hey pratice makes perfect. Also you’d be amazed at the ecosystems that live down there on the forest floor 😆 😆 😆
I’m thinking that there must be some sort of trickery going on with those 2 stroke machines such is there willingness to climb hills  no wait it’s the fact that they burn their oil and don’t spew it out onto the trail like the big XR (while checking for the ecosystems of course).
I am amazed at the knowledge of galey and mal who must know the area like the back of their hands to be able to get us back to the cars without any umms or arrs as for me i couldn’t find my way from a pine needle to a pine cone  even with the next rider only just ahead.
Again thanks for a great ride and to any others thinking about a monday ride… DO IT :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
