Map:
well, the plan changed a bit due to copious amounts of alcohol being drunk the night before, so the departure time was set back to the 1235 ferry, then my riding partner foundout he was to crook to ride, although once i arrived at the terminal, there was a nice bmw 650 and the owner and i got talking (gary form scotland), turns out he just come back from a cape trip, anyways back onto the trip we boardeed the ferry at 1240
then the trip was uneventful, although it is very relaxing and it was perfect weather
gary recommended seeing westpoint as its a dirt road leading to the beach, so after a quick top up which felt like i was filling itdue to $197 a ltr  i was heading to westpoint having a good time flicking the back end around on the dirt road, just be wary of the 4wds that like drifing along the road
as you can see it has great views back to castle hill towering over the city
next up was radical bay which even thought its all bitumen up untill ur on the beach its a great ride due to the undualting terrain and tight curves…awesome ride
due to it being so secluded it may be the nude beach as 2 very good looking women decided they would run up and down the beach with only bikini briefs on :woohoo:
then it was only horseshoe bay where its a bit of a cafe district with a bar and take away shops nice long beach with jet ski hire, and lots of boats anchored off the beach
then it was heading back to the southern side of the island stopping at archadia which has a great back packers bar and with a pool and gaming room the lot really this is my drinking hole on the island :silly: geoffrey bay is out across the road from the backpackers and give a great view of the surrounding islands
lots of nice backpacker women hand out on this beach
while on the way to pic nice bay i stoped at nelly bay which has a bit of a dodgy boat ramp that has seen better days, an old bloke and what looked ot be his grandson were fishing next to it but didnt look to be getting anywhere
picnic bay was up next and its got a nice pub with good bistro food thats open all day, and a great jetty that always has people fishing off it, also the local coppers hang out down here as the station is a block from the pub but the ride over hawkins point ot picnic bay is a good one although it is quite short
then form here it was back to the line up to wait for the ferry that arrives at 1715 then back to townsville and home
all in all its a good day of rideing although it could all be done on a sports tourer if u didnt mind getting it a bit dirty, the drit road is fun as and the radical bay ride is one that will entice you to go that little bit harder haha i rode a total of 55ks on the island but i stopped at every place for around 10 15mins and relaxed and i was ready to come home after 4 1/2hrs i suppose if you do some jet skiing or walking tracks it could be a full day trip, as for riding gear i wore jeans and boots with a thin jumper, camera and water in a backpack with the ipod constantly on… its a good way to have a day out and in the end had a total cost of $65 which was ferry ticket return, a beer with lunch, 20 in the pokies and a coke at picnic bay. hope this give you an idea of what maggi is like, i would go back riding again

AnonymousMy wifes good friend has a house at Westpoint.. It has a distinctive red door. Nice relaxing area. loads of walking trails there as well. The place when we were there wasn’t tourist taken over which was good..

They always look for Sparkies. Now If you Like dirt bike riding, as being on this site would suggest, behind Kidston and in that area there is some AWESOME riding. If your gook at a map of the Townsville area, Kidston is behind and up a touch from Charters towers region, almost around the Lynnd. mate that area is a gateway to Gold Mines and all things upper/outback Queensland. Maggie is around 1.5 hrs from Kidston. Good $ too….Sorry…butting in…Just some deadset awesome ground….( I drilled the shit out of it a few years back with a research mob )
