Up and into the bacon and eggs after too many Turkey’s and Southo’s on the Saturday night-Sunday morning:silly: :silly:
Riders were:- Al (K9) RMX 250
Jake (son of Al) WR 450
Andrew KTM 300
Dude Husky 510
Mal Sherco 5.1
Tim (Smurf) KTM 200
Murph KTM 525
The ride started off good with me leading and the Dude sweeping. Didn’t know what level the new boys rode but after getting up the hill near the Lakes Moto-X track, figured they would handle anything that this ride would throw at them.
Al had an issue with a broken chain halfway through some singles but Mal came to the rescue with a spare link and we were off again:)
After a couple more hill climbs we came to another single which had a testing hill. Tim, Mal, Dude and myself all made it but when Al had a go, it all turned to crap:ohmy:  He made it halfway then lost traction and headed off line hitting a small black stump then coasting backwards before the inevidable. He bailed a bit late and hit the ground hard bouncing-sliding down the hill taking out every rock he could.
I ran down, shut off his bike and did what I could to help. It took some time for him to recover enough to get back on his bike and I showed him back out to the main road where he met us at the Gap servo for lunch. Jake had a few issues with the hill but after a fair bit of pushing from the Dude they arrived at the top. Andrew had no worriesB)
I picked up a roll of chicken wire which locked my back wheel and broke my rear guard:angry: Fixed with tape and off to the Gap to refuel and eat:)
The second half of the ride we did without Al and Andrew as they rode the road back to my place. All went smooth except for me choosing a wrong rut and getting stuck in the mud:silly: :silly: (Thanks fella’s for helping me out)
I hope everybody enjoyed Tim and my new single and all the rest of the ride:unsure:
Felt pretty damn fatigued on the way home as did most of the gang:blink: Except for Tim whom I just let go:angry:
We had done over 100kms and that was enough and apart from Al’s big off was a great way to finish a fantastic weekend.
Thanks to all who came along
Cheers:cheer:

Mal will probably post some picsJune 16, 2009 at 2:07 am #139673It certainly puts the pressure on you when you are leading guys you haven’t ridden with,ay Murph? You are constantly thinking “am I going too fast, am I going to slow for these guys,do I look like a spastic?” Sweeping is much easier I think!!
June 16, 2009 at 2:55 am #139681Yeah Mick
Sweeping is much easier and you actually get to help people:)
I rang Al (K9) this morning and he is still very sore. He has a cold now and dreads every time he has to sneeze.
Tried to talk him into going to the docs to get checked out (X-rays) but its hard to teach an old dog new tricks.
I can’t help but feel a little bit responsible for his injuries though.:S
Cheers Mick:cheer:

AnonymousSounds like an action packed ride! At least Al got away from his accident without any major injuries.
Mick – It’s not possible for you to go too fast and you always look like a spastic on a bike
June 16, 2009 at 5:56 am #139725Thats not very nice moto. but im not sure because when im on the bike and not on the ground:blink: im always in front of him

June 16, 2009 at 9:53 am #139674Thanks to you blokes we really enjoyed the ride it was totally different scenery to what we are use to,especially in reverse down the hill quicker than going up it. Special thanks to Mal for the rats gold tooth. K9.
June 16, 2009 at 10:59 am #139803Welcome to old bulls K9.
Good to see you enjoyed the ride, that was until that stump jumped out in front of you. How is the body coping?
Happy to help with the gold tooth K9. You might want get a new clip for that link as it was looking pretty thin.
I’m uploading the videos now and post them soon. Murph will have them on a disc by now as i know you can’t watch them at work on youtube. Tim (smurph) took some great sequence shots of that hill, so hit murph up for a CD.
Don’t forget to check your rear suspension linkage.

AnonymousJeez K9 that RMX looks very familiar, one of the pictures on my screen saver at work.
Heard you’s met up with some other Old Bulls on your Sunday ride – Tony (WR250R)and Jake (WR250F) previous owner of K9’s bike.
By the way anyone looking for of know of anyone looking for a WR250R – Tony is selling his to upgrade to a 4fiddy?
Looks like it was a good ride.

AnonymousI know that hill, I think you can take it on the angle too. I think taking it at an angle is actually easier (despite seeming harder) as you get to maintain a more steady pace.
Those moments when you roll back down a hill and you know you are going to wipeout are horrible. Glad he’s okay
