I also met Mal through his Procycle days, way before OBT(on the phone actually). It was through our OBT association with Suttos that our paths crossed again and we got to meet in person. Someone in retail, that was happy to spend time with you on the phone, is a rare occasion indeed, Mal was the King of free advise, that advise was also the right advice.
He was the sort of guy that every motorcycle shop needs, looking after people the right way.

A true loss to the industry.

My Condolences go out to the family.
I first met mal at a ride in Narooma put on by heffo and then when I got involved with OBT at Sutto’s. He was the reason I kept going back to sutto’s in the first instance. Not being local has always been an issue in dealing with shops and Mal changed that for me.

He would be one of the nicest people I have ever met/dealt with, chatted with, and will be sincerely missed

Tb my thoughts are with you-Laugh with the Memories.

I forgot about the Motard ride TB. A 990 two on the back wheel is a sight to be seen. :woohoo:

I believe Mal wheelied your 660 within 5 min of riding too TB. :)

He actually wheelied it in the first 5 metres of riding it the night I picked it up. As soon as he clicked 2nd it went on the back wheel

An example of his passion for riding and being there for his mates was that night, the night I picked up the Tenere. I caught the train to the central coast and it started to rain and I mean it was flogging down. I picked the bike up and was riding down the freeway towards Wyong, I was on the blue tooth talking to Salina explaining there were cars pulling over on the side of the freeway with their hazard lights on it was scarey. I said no one in their right mind would be out car, truck or bike tonight I am going to Gosford to stay the night somewhere.
Then whilel riding along at 55 kph on the freeway my phone rings through the blue tooth and an excited Mal says ” where are you mate I am at Somersby shop hiding under the awning”
“what are you doing there” I yelled he laughed and replied “couldn’t let you find your way home in the rain and the dark on up your own could I”
I rode the 5 kms to the Somersby shop, there he was waiting, I didnt know he was coming up that night to meet me, but I felt so much better I had someone to ride home in the pissing rain with.

He was that sort of bloke

Yesterday i didnt just lose a work colleague i lost a great friend,

My last memories of Mal were at the work Christmas party we all had the best time, Sliding down the slip and slide and acting like kids.

We would always talk about our best wheelies and which one of us could do the best wheelie, We never got to do that competition. :(
I cant wait for the birthday ride so i do a wheelie for Mal.

Im going to miss you mate, We all are.

Surprise shot of Mal for one of our Old Bull sales

I wasn’t as lucky as others on this thread to really get to know Mal but I was blessed to have an opportunity to be in Mal’s company on a couple off occasions. The first one was when Sutto’s hosted a tyre changing night last year. Mal, Dan and Chris put on an exceptional night sharing pizza’s and beer whilst we all attempted to change some tyres. Mal looked on/helped and enjoyed the shenanigan’s….. then I took him out to the floor full of dirtbike cloths and challenged him into finding me some coordinated dirtbike cloths (the KTM pants I had didn’t go with the Honda). ….. he was very polite when I asked him if my bum looked to big in the pants…… I must admit Tiny wasn’t as polite.

The second occasion was down at Bateman’s Bay Apex Ride. We crossed paths during the two days but as I was leaving I stopped the car/trailer about 500m away and out of no where Mal came over and asked if everything’s was ok. When I explained that I wasn’t happy with the way I’ve tied the bike onto the trailer he immediately went into action and secured it much better than I did. From what I’ve read of Mal this touch of kindness is the true blue spirit of the man.

I know these are only little tit-bits of my encounters with Mal but to me they are special and I feel privileged to have meet Mal.

My thoughts go to his family and to the many friends he touched in his short life.

I know he will be doing wheelie’s up there and he will be another angel that I can call on when I’m bashing thru the bush asking for the power’s above to look after me.

I wish I could be there at the OBT birthday bash to toast him but will make sure that I’ll have a rum & coke for him somewhere in Slovenia.
