AnonymousThose wheel ring things with the bead breaker fitted that whips and ballards sell.
Do they make me want to change tyres more often? Or do they just take up more space in the shed? are they only for foam tubes? Or all?
August 14, 2009 at 1:10 am #148271Descent tyre levers is all you need..
my 3c worth.August 14, 2009 at 1:23 am #148274
Anonymous2 x 15″ car rims welded together in a stack, piece of reo or similar type bar welded in the middle long enough to hold your tyre in place, garden hose around the edges of the tyres to protect your spokes and stop it sliding around the floor and a couple of tyre levers are as good as gold and you will done like a kipper for tyre changes
(Boulder we really need some new terms, I have flogged the crap out of those two now:laugh: )

Use your imagination Champo – overcome adapt and improvise – But taken on board I could use it as a beverage holder as well in the shed:)

Can be used for all sorts tube, tubeless and Mousses like TB and Crash run
August 14, 2009 at 4:34 am #148291Yeah I have a Ballards one, they are cheap enough and can be used for everything, the lever is good for cracking the beads so you dont waste 2 mins flogging it with a rubber hammer like Dan

AnonymousI had thought the same thing. However, given that I have never changed a tyre on my bike myself I didn’t see the point in getting one.
How much are they anyway?
August 19, 2009 at 6:29 am #148941Ballards on line catalogue I think around $140

August 19, 2009 at 6:53 am #148972i seen a trick one in a catalogue yesterday, im not sure if it was supercheap or repco, it was a bit more technical than the ballards ones. it was a bolt down jobby and it had the bar with the lip thingy so you just pushed it around the rim to remove the tyre and a bead breaker thingo….like a proper one.

sorry i binned the catalogue already though:(

the bike shop has free fitting anyway, and if they dont i have a couple of mates that work at a tyre shop and they sort it out for me

AnonymousYeah, whenever I buy a tyre I just get the shop to fit it. It’s hassle enough for me to have to take my wheel out and drive it there. I reckon they should do a delivery service
August 20, 2009 at 2:36 am #149149my local bike mechanic has a special on at the moment, if you spend more than $200 on tyres, repairs, service etc, he picks the bike up and drops it off.
August 20, 2009 at 2:40 am #149150
AnonymousWill he do it for Nelson Bay residents if I spend more than $400

As a point of interest, who here changes their own tyres and who gets the shop to do it?
