I guess this ride could be called lots of things: 1st ride for 2014, Marty’s birthday ride or simply plain old Menai.
Marty450 and Spartacus316 (Adam) showed up early – Teza and Husaberger (Chris) had trailer trouble and were late!
Weather was great – cooler than yesterday and cloud cover all day. Even a slight breeze. Dust was a pain but we coped. We started off with some singles, hooked up onto some 4wd tracks and pretty much alternated between these for the morning. Adam lead for most of the ride. A couple of blokes on WRs tagged along for a while, until one of them broke his clutch perch. Both hadn’t been riding for many years and realised the importance of barkbusters, tools, cable ties etc. Our pace suited them – plenty of rests!
Some bloke (read – me) suggested a particular section on the way home. Steep downhill, rock ledges, river (dry) crossing that was strewn with boulders, no breeze at the bottom and a mongrel, loose uphill to finish. We all navigated it ok, but the difficulty of the section took its toll and we were glad to get home 30 mins later. No-one hurt themselves, the bikes were all in one piece (Teza had a problem with a jammed back brake due to the wheel moving  , Husaberger lost his bash plate on a drop off and had to walk back up the hill to retrieve it  ) and we all thoroughly enjoyed our 4hr ride.
Thanks to Adam for leading and the blokes who turned out for the ride. Awesome morning
Photos to follow if I can remember how to post them.
I can report that the electrical problem resulting in the engine cutting out at low rpm I have had with the Sherco has been fixed (and at no cost other than my labour!) Ran like a dream!
Cheers budgeJanuary 19, 2014 at 6:56 am #253356Sounds like it was fun with a bit of a challenge just to remind you that your heart still beats
I’ll have to keep my eye open for the next one
Adam.
January 19, 2014 at 7:52 am #253357Well what a great mornings ride for the first of the year
Thanks Budge for puting it out there.
The christmas cheer had taken it’s toll on fitness it seemed (not that I had any to begin with) But I was sweeting hard down in that creek vally, but I was haveing too much fun to be to bothered by it,I realy like that kinde of riding,Tree ferns and big twisty gums, not much water in the creek though. As always what go’s down, must go up again, :silly: :woohoo: we did some great rocky sandy climb outs,The Force bash plate was paying its way today, smacked it on rocks heaps of times,Thats good oll Menai,,, Rocks, dusty clay n a bit of sand here and there.
I was thankfull for the breaks we had after each chalange, regather ones composuer ready for the next one, preaty much untill there was no composuer left at all for me   ,After that last rocky vally track I was done,As they say “billy galooted” (rooted)  My arms felt like spaghetti, and I did notice that there were a couple of other red, sweety faces.
I think that we were all ready to head back. Fore hour’s n 40 k’s seemed to do it :woohoo:But I’m afraid a lot of the :woohoo: was floged out by now
Like Chris (husaburger) said “Might of only done 40 k’s,,,,but they were quality k’s   To true.
Well the 310 went well as always, untill the rear weel moved,,it seems the dick head who adjusted the chain yesterday forgot to retighten the axle nutLucky I do all my own work on it
But it was a quick fix and no damage done, just lucky that the rear weel pretty much locked up so i couldn’t ride on.
Well i met a couple of new ride budies to day, great to meet and ride with yuz,Marty 450 and Spartacus316 who it seems lives rite round the corner from me,could be some avo rides in the future it seems,
Thanks to every one for a fun ride,,realy enjoyed it.And thanks to Chris for coming around to pick me up,,Too bad the trailer didn’t work out there buddy.
Budje,Thanks for the coldy mate ,it went down well.
Well that’s me untill next time.
Cheers Teza.January 20, 2014 at 9:15 am #253358Thanks Budge. Was a good day to start the year. Plenty of single track, some wider trails, some more singles and a valley to cross. Sand, rocks and dust. :pinch: Thankfully was some cloud cover and a few degrees cooler than Saturday. 5 blokes. 5 different bikes (Sherco, Husaberg, Husky, Honda and KTM).
A variety of riding which had us sweating off some left over xmas cheer. Good to meet Tezza, Marty and Chris with Tezza only living around the corner from myself. I can definitely see some arvo rides happening. Sorting out the new CRF and suspension settings which is progressing well. I am definitely feeling more comfortable with the way the bike rides
A few dropped bikes but no injuries. A great start to the year
Budge supplied a few liquid refreshments post ride which I think we were all thankful for. I’m looking forward to more rides as the year progresses.
Cheers
AdamJanuary 21, 2014 at 9:49 pm #253359Thanks Budge and Adam for showing us some great trails in an area just in our backyard.
Good mix of every terrain possible with some challenging rock faces to get up.Plenty of technical riding with some fast open sections to get some cool breeze through us and the bikes.
It was good to meet all you blokes and will have to catch up for another ride soon.
Cheers Marty
