Somewhere in our drunken ramblings on New Years Eve, Moose and I decided we would do a new years day ride.
As you can imagine it was a late start and we finally threw our legs over the XR’s at 10 am and headed off.
As it turns out we had picked the hottest day this summer to go riding with no breakfast and both nursing a reasonable hangovers, so a easy ride was decided upon.
After enjoying my ride up the Point Plomer rd last week, I suggested we did that again. Moose was more than keen, so that is where we headed.
Hear is me at Mooses in my brand new bling gear that Santa bought me.
Just to break up a longer tar section just out of Wauchope, we headed into the bush for some single trail. We had gone no more than 500meters in the bush, I looked over my shoulder to see if Moose had seen me turn up a trail when I dunno what happened, but the front wheel washed out on me and I hit the deck.
So I am claiming the first off for the year on this site. No harm done though, only my pride,as Moose was laughing when he was asking if I was OK, minimal sincerety there.
We headed to Port Macquarie to get the ferry across the Hastings river and headed up Plomer road which was even better than the other day as we have had a fair bit of rain and all the pot holes were full of mud.
Here is a pic waiting for the Ferry.
We rode up to Big Hill which is a Great place of the coast.
After we left there, I thought we would go down a track I had seen on the way there and see what was down it.
Didn’t we luck out!!! What a great trail!! The trail was composed of a grey sand and it was great to ride. As we came down onto some low country the swamps started and you would be easily convinced you where in Arnem land or some other exotic northern location. Half way along the trail we met two old hippy’s in an old Nissan Patrol with Xmas decorations all over it, obviously indulging in some bush Lotto.
They were happy enough to give us some directions that eventually bought us out onto Maria River Rd close enough to Crescent Head to make the run into town for some food.
Here are some pics we took.
Moose negotiating one of the numerous bog holes. And another,
Caption,,,Hurry up Moose and take the pic before a croc gets me.
Another shot of a nice place and a bike in its element.
Once we hit the main road there was about 15km of tar to Crescent Head so we went there to get a burger and a drink.
From there it was just a matter of running back down the Plomer Rd to Port Macquarie.
Here is Moose on one section of the Plomer Rd, I didn’t get many pics of the good sections as I was to busy riding them..LOLUs at Point Plomer.

Hitting the ferry signals the end of the real fun and it was a 25km run on the tar back to Mooses’ for a couple of beers as it was getting pretty bloody hot by then. Some ferry shots
For what was realy a spur of the moment decision to go for a ride turned out to be a great day. But then again every day is a great day if you live here!!

January 1, 2009 at 10:37 pm #116432I was speaking to Fossil this morning and we talked about another trail that takes you from Nth Shore Port Macquarie through the Limeburners nature reserve and comes out at Point Plomer. Apparently the whole reseve needs to be fairly dry to get through and we were somewhat lucky to get through yesterday as some of the bogs in times of wet are too deep for bikes after rain. Also the legality of even being in there on registerde dirt bikes, is at this stage an unknown issue.
So it is an option but March tends to be pretty wet here.January 2, 2009 at 8:31 pm #116420Trailboss wrote:

I am just checking out a Topo mao of Telegraph Point. What is the deal with getting across the river at Hack’s ferry?
I just emailed Boag to see if he is keen for Jan 17.January 2, 2009 at 8:55 pm #116480As far as i am aware Hacks Ferry is no longer there. I went fishing there with my old man about 6 months ago and to be honest that was the first time i had been down there, was no sign of a ferry and unless you had a boat there is no way you would take a bike across. Anyway why do you want to cross there??
January 2, 2009 at 9:01 pm #116481I saw it as a way to cross the river from Telepoint, just looking for another way to the Nth Shore with out having to go into Port Macquarie.

January 2, 2009 at 10:56 pm #116483Dave, do you know any way to get through to Limeburners with out going to Port then??
January 2, 2009 at 11:04 pm #116484I have a mate that used to live on the river at hack’s original ferry site and he took us across on his little piss punt – a floating device that is used to get to the pub at tele, but he moved out years ago
