Saturday arvo I convinced Moose that he should get Ol Burple out and come with me on a bit of a run from Comboyne to Gingers Creek and back via the Cells river area.

We towed the Bikes to a Mates place at Comboyne and were unloaded and Kitted up by 8.30am. A bit of a bum steer from my mate sent us down a really sweet trail only to find 8kms down it, the bush had reclaimed it with a inpenetratable thicket. We then had to turn around and return up the same trail.
Here is Moose negotiating a tight spot on Ol Burple

We ended up using Colling pass to get to Elands where we stopped at the shop and topped up with fuel and had a yarn to the resident hippies. From there we headed north in the persuit of some adventure.

We found this abandoned on the side of the road, bit strange really.

We pushed on and I turned down a trail I had seen many times but had never had time to check out. What a great find!!
We came to an intersection and it was sign posted “ Big Creek Trail” We decided to go and see how big it was, We ripped down the leaf strewn trail and had a ball, these trails haven’t seen any traffic for a long time. We found “Big Creek” and it didn’t look all that big but shit it got deep in the middle!! We rode in and scratched up the bank on the far side and continued along for about 6 more Km’s when it became obvious that ihe trail was headed in the wrong direction to suit or plans, so once again we rode back the way we came. The drop into the creek was sketchy but we both made it.
We then found some singles that go through a small pine forest, the location of the trail and how it linked up with other trails made it obvious to us that these trails are used by a well known tour company that runs tours in the area.
We came across a log that had blocked the trail, we wrestled the 650 over it and Moose decided to hit it with a bit more commitment with this being the end result.

Anyhow we got over the log and flogged along a ton of sweet singles before hitting Knodingbull road again, a short run down it saw us turn onto Blue Mountain creek road. We had a ball running the big girls along headed for the Cells. We dropped down into the Cells via Eaglehawk trail, we had a quick look in an old Gold Mine and then headed for Jeep trail Via the Ore crusher.

A heap of vintage industrial machinery in one photo.

There are four creeks to be negotiated to get to Jeep trail, some times clear water is deeper than it looks and we soon found that one of the crossing was over the top of our wheels, which lead to one scary moment when Ol Burple gave a cough and fart half way through. Thank god she kept running and scratched up out of the creek.

The next thing to do was get to Gingers Creek via Boony’s Capachinno trail.

We eventually got to Gingers Creek at 1.30 and had a great lunch before hitting the bush again, We headed in at Stockyard Creek and left the main trail via a track called the Old Highway, I had ridden this area with The Tamworth boys and in no time I found some familiar singles and we had a great time tearing around on “Boony’s Trails” As the time was getting away we main trailed it back To Elands. The Big XR’s are a ton of fun on the open stuff and we really hammered them along. I came in a bit hot to one corner and found my self battling the keep my bike on the road, I failed and the Pig left the road with me aboard. I ended up staying on her after and anxious moment or two. I looked over my shoulder to see Moose railing the same corner with only one hand on the handlebars and the other raised in his usual thumbs up salute.
We eventually got back to Comboyne ay 5pm,tired and dusty after doing 211kms for the day. That would have to be one of the best days I have ever spent out on a XR, I am thinking of using this loop for the first day of my birthday ride in March.

By the sounds of it your Birthday ride will be better than ever. Considering how good it was last year I am already excited.
I am keen to check Cells out so this would be my chance :woohoo:
