As we are only about 3 weeks out could you check the list and confirm the accomodation and ride days I have set for you. I will need to know numbers to book you a bed.
An idea of when you will be arriving in Wauchope will be good.

Young Smurph and I will be up Friday some time??
Will be staying with family less than 5kms from Breckenridge Farmstay :)
Will see you lot, nice and early Saturday morning :woohoo:

I only knocked over 4 liters so he may be right. You dont have to be a brain surgeon to see that I am old and bald, so I will treat that comment with the contempt it deserves.

There are ton of trails on this ride that I have never done nor has anyone else for the last 6 months. They are in prime condition and covered with leaves.

Dinner at the Wauchope RSL on Friday night from 7.30pm. Shed shananigans from when we get back from the Friday ride to about 6.30pm.

I had 8 beers last night and I was feeling everyone of them at one stage today.

It started out like any normal Friday arvo in the shed, until RiderX informs me that he was gunna pre run the Boot camp ride the next day and he had no one to do it with him.

My bike was no where near ready to ride as it was up on the stand with no back wheel in it and the wheel was at the engineers getting some work done on the hub. A quick call to the engineers a 4.50pm confirmed that that wheel wasn’t ready but he was still at the shop having beers. So I sent RiderX down there to get my disc and sprocket so I could set up the spare wheel that is here. A not so quick tyre change (ask riderX what went on there) while I did the air filter and a couple of other little jobs that needed doing saw my bike ready to go at 8.30pm.

I turned up at the designated meeting place to find RiderX already there with Adam, another recruit he managed to round up. Adam was on a brand new Husky 250 2 banger, he is a veteran of numerous A4DE’s and Aussie Off roads and can peddle!! We headed off through Cowarra into some sweet singles that have been cut in by some of the local guns. A few km into it and we came across a section that had been recently logged so we had to ab lib a little. It was here were we came across an interesting little obsticle. Two wet greasy little logs about 3 feet apart, which required you to pop your front wheel over both at once, I managed to get my front over both but got my back wheel caught between the two. A bit of revving and snorting saw me through, although in the process I had no idea I was filling Adam in with roost big time!!! Adam went to jump the logs next and it went to shit for him and he went down, it had never dawned on me in the past but RiderX sounds like a Hyena, when he sees something he thinks is really funny. It was decided then that we would cut one of the logs out as it would no doubt cause a bit of grief next weekend.

As we were about to take off Adam decided payback was in order and as he took off he filled me in a beauty with roost. A mistake on his behalf……..more on that later.

We headed down in towards Bottlebutt along a single when I rounded a corner to see RiderX out of shape and coming unstuck. I was then busy being a dickhead laughing and beeping my horn when I hit the same obscured log he had and came down too!! KARMA sucks at times.

More sweet trails saw us at Old Bottlebutt for a break, there are some great little trails there through the rainforest and the work Tripper and RiderX did clearing them last week shows.

    SDC10218.jpg

We came across anther couple of trees that needed clearing of the trail, so RiderX snaps out his trusty saw and they were gone in no time.

The next challenge was a steep rutted gravel hill, the old rutt magnet that I ride, spotted the biggest rutt on the hill and went straight for it,which halted my progress abruptly.

    SDC10220.jpg

It was then decided it may not be a good idea to try and get thirty bikes up this hill next weekend, so a route around the hill was plotted and we headed that way.

Once back In Bago we opened up some of the trails from last year’s bash and linked up a few new ones. I doubt if some off these trails have seen traffic since last year’s ride.

On one particular down hill that I have done about a 1000 times, I had Adam up my clacker and we were peddling pretty quick when a rock hidden in some silt snapped my front wheel out from under me and I hit the deck again, unhurt I picked the XR up to see that I had cracked my radiator shroud but no other damage to bike or rider.

We stopped for a bit of lunch and a top up of fuel at the fuel dump and were soon away again on our way to Swans crossing. Phone hill will have a few guys with arm pump happening next weekend as you descend into the valley below. It is so steep in sections rolling rocks overtake you,the trails at the bottom are worth the effort though!!!

A quick visit to the Rowan’s house to top up the Camelbaks was a welcome relief as it was getting a bit warm by then. The iced cordial was great too. Thanks Phil.

From Phil’s place it is literally all up hill from there, another gnarly rutted mother of an up hill which sees you go from 20 meters above sea level to about 500 meters all straight up!! The old rutt magnet bought me undone again and I had to turn around and have another crack at it and make it on my second attempt.

A few lantana whip trails saw us at Swan’s Crossing for a wash and rest, while the Camelbaks were topped up again. A run along Elkhorn Trail confirmed that is still in awesome condition and will definitely be in next weeks ride. We did the singles beside Zinc Road before hitting the trail that drops you down into the valley again. It was here I came across RiderX having another dirt nap under his bike after he was snapped off it ,by a vine. All was good and we were under way again, dropping further down into the valley Via “Kakoda trail” Here I clipped a tree and had a little off trail excursion and it still has me wondering now how I got back onto the trail with out coming off the bike. We finished off the ride checking to see if all the trails were clear back to Wauchope and they are sweet although they see a bit more traffic as they are close to town.

It was here that pay back was in order, Adam followed me into a monsterous bog hole and I stopped in the middle, effectively trapping him, I looked over my shoulder to ensure I had him lined up nicely he realised what was about to happen and tried to back back but to no avail and I dumped the clutch, Adam got a lesson in how much mud a XR650 can launch, it was 2 inches deep all over him and his bike.He also got a another lesson about old age and treachery!!!!

You guys coming next weekend are in for a real treat as RiderX has come good once again linking trail after trail of sweet singles and a few challenging hills with bugger all main fire trails.

There is a lot of stuff that looks like this

    SDC10221.jpg

    Adam thought it was sweet.

I will let you in on a little secret, I am hurting a bit today and I can tell I did a RiderX boot camp yesterday!!!
