March 8, 2010 at 10:03 am #172732Arrived Friday morning at about 5.30 at Micks place to find everyone gearing up for the ride!!
The weather was looking good and so we met at Moose’es place for the big off. Thanks to Mick and Moose for taking us on some great tracks and we got to ride just about every type of trail imaginable, this ride had everything including some nice big bog holes!! It was really nice to put some faces to names of old bulls I have’nt met yet.
It was very slippery in places and the riding was a bit of a challenge but very enjoyable, this is about when I had a little off and my knee came off second best!! Good job I had my Asterisk knee braces on or things could have been a lot worse.
Thanks also to Ollie for taking us on some really nice single trails that i would love to do again one day. I am really sorry that I could not ride sat and sun I was really looking forward to rider x’s ride as I had a great time last year but it was not to be.
A big thanks to Jeffro for sweeping all day and for helping an old cripple on with his bike Sat morning. I had some x’rays taken on sat and it seems I have a hairline fracture of my shin bone and some ligament damage to my knee but the new Asterisk braces have payed for themselves already and I am very pleased with my purchase and would highly recommend them.
Thanks to all for a great ride and a happy Birthday to mick I hope I can make the next oneMarch 8, 2010 at 10:13 am #172733Mudntar…and Xrider watches on

March 8, 2010 at 10:49 am #172846Hi All
Happy Birthday Mick.. What a way to celebrate!!! Nice XR cake!
Had planned on being there on Friday for an introduction to riding Old Bull style. Unfortunately continued self employment got in the way of a good day out.
I had left Saturday alone being a dream ride. I had to acknowledge the 4 to 5 grading system, figuring the day best left to those who know better.
However all is not lost for a local lad and two of his junior helpers, the trail left by 30 Old Bull riders on Saturday is clearly seen and left for those to follow on Sunday, although at a slower pace, at least partially anyway. It kept us occupied for a couple of hours in Cowarra on Sunday.
Thank you to the trail leaders for introducing me to some new territory, an ancillary benefit of your great day. I anxiously await my opportunity to ride with you some time soon. In the meantime I will do my best to get some practice in (trying my best to keep up with my junior helpers) and hold open some of the single lines you left us to play on

March 8, 2010 at 11:40 am #172735WEll well well what can I say, but thank you Mick, RiderX, Ash, Jay, Nickoff, Chris and Country Kitchen for putting in some serious work in stringing together a great ride.
Mick you should seriously think about event organisation.
Especially as you were able to set those traps for the unsuspecting throughout the day.
For example, the vine that suddenly dropped from above to simultaneously choke and rip me from my bike. Whilst hanging in mid air contemplating life I wondered weather or not I was having fun yet. It was Newton, thats Issac not Bert, who said that which goes up must come down and sure enough I smacked to soft mushy earth with a wet thud. At this point I could nt decide as i was thinking about more important things like trying to breath.
Once I got my wind back I came very close to pulling the pin. However, Mick drew my attention to the mud and crap all over my pants, saying “Oh no, Dean now your seats going to get dirty”. Followed closely by another chap, can’t remember who, saying “that was the most amazing thing i have ever seen”. I thought how can i go home now when Im bringing such joy to the lives of these two clowns.Anyway, surprisingly from this point on my day improved dramatically the trails got dryer, well kind of, and I kind of found my groove.
Still being pasted every bugger, falling off at every possible moment and generally having the time of my life.As good as a ride is its always better with a beer at the end. Especially if its a RiderX Boot Camp.
What a great day lots of laughs, thrills and spills.
Happy birthday mick
Cheers
March 8, 2010 at 12:22 pm #172850Thursday I was tooling around at home running to a plan to get to TBs by 1pm. TB rings at 10am and says āIām done get on the roadā. I still had a bit to do but managed to get to TBs at 12pm. We loaded around the workers who looked less than impressed that we were going riding and they had to work. Then off to the bottle shop and then Suttos for the weekly donation. Thanks again Mal. TB sort of made the decision to drive all the way so Crash thought it would a be good idea to have a couple of drinks on the way. The road trip banter was great fun, thanks guys.
Crash kicking back.
TB giving Crash āThe lookā
The trailer
We get to Micks and unload and have another beer. We do whatās needed to the bikes and settle in for a few more ales. Riders drop in all through the night and everyone is keen to on the bikes. Friday morning weāre up early and off to Wauchope Country Kitchen for a bacon and egg roll. Then off to Mooses to meet and greet and get riding.
Meet and greet at Mooses
Where we rode I have no idea but Mick and Moose put together some excellent tracks. I was linked (via the Bluetooth) with Mick for a while and then TB which is great for chatting and getting the heads up for track conditions. We stopped to pick up Blue450 who I organised a splash of fuel from. This was a good idea as I hit reserve before the fuel stop. Thanks heaps Blue450. We stopped at a truck depot so TB and Crash could catch up with an old trucknā buddy. We thatās what I told a few guys anyway.
Ollie took over from the fuel stop and we rode some sweet tracks that seemed to around in circles a bit but that was ok everyone was having a ball. Lunch was at a flashy looking pub and the food was excellent. The tracks after lunch was sand and the deep black stagnant water hole were probably the low point of the ride but sometimes you have go through a bit of yuk to get to good riding. Then we had a quick photo at the beach and off to the road with big whoopy holes. This road was a real joy to ride. I was cruising along with TB getting quicker and quicker when Moose and Kram sneak up on us and then Kram turns it up a notch with TB. Kram and TB ride off into the distance at a frightening pace. Moose sneaks past me and I do my best to stay with him and just get past him towards the end where we pull up puffing like two 80 year old smokers. A nice ferry ride to finish the day and we get back to Micks to service the bikes and swap some tyres over.
The meal at the RSL was great and huge. I ate too much and didnāt feel like drinking lots. But had a few and caught up on the day with the other riders. Bollocks cake was awesome; you are a true chef mate.

Rider X boot camp
We left Micks at 6am, grabbed fuel on the way out to the farm stay. Had a good breakfast and met some more old bulls. Rider X gives the briefing and weāre off. Gently through the private property and weāre straight into some sweet tracks and they stayed like that all day. It was a great mix of tight slippery singles to nice flowing open singles and some fire trails thrown in to cool down. After TB had his moment with the stump meets radiator, I was feeling a bit spent. So I took over sweep while Ash went to get the Ute for TB. That was a top effort by Rider X and Ash, within minutes of TBs moment (crash) they had a plan to get him and the bike out. While sweeping along I come through one of the many small creeks and up a slippery incline to meet a huge slide mark and at the end is Bollocks with his bike facing back the other way. I asked him if he was ok and he said something like āyeah mate sheās all good just had a little dirt napā. Turned the bike around and blasted off.
Ash took over sweep duties when he caught up with the group again and I was blue toothed to Crash so we were riding together and having a laugh calling the track and telling jokes. Crash likes fast hill climbs on the big XR and it seemed to be a race to the top every time. One time we sneak up on Murph and I toot my pathetic horn and itās on. We came to a hill and I try to get around Murph and he responses with a shower of rocks, but I donāt back down and try harder and get to stick a wheel up one side of him. Then I hear crash on the blue tooth say āIām coming up the left!!!ā and smashes a tree root as he flies past me and that launches him into a deep rut. He drives through the rut and takes Murph at the same time and they both shower the hell out of me with rocks. Then Crash says at the top ādid you get Murphā. I said āHow the F$#k could I get Murph with all those rocks coming at ā. I couldnāt see the track let alone Murph.
The lunch stop was a welcome sight. A fresh chicken salad sandwich and a can of drink was just what we needed. Thanks to Mrs Rider X for the catering, it was awesome food. Water in packs and fuel in bikes and we were off again.
Back into some more magic tracks and we come to the hill that a lot of riders have a few troubles on including me. We watch a heap of riders give it a go and some made first time some didnāt. Crash was the most impressive to watch on the XR with all the nav gear and huge tank. I have a video of his second attempt but the third was the final assault. Crash hit the hill in what seemed like 3rd gear standing up. He made the first section and the second and then the bike coughed and stopped. Crash had forgotten to turn the fuel on after coming down from the last attempt.
Crash checking out what couldāve been had he turned his fuel on.
Crash going for it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mz_G3W4lH48At the top the guys cut out a bit of the loop and we headed towards home so Iām told. When we get close to the highway a few of us pull the pin and the rest continue on to some nasty rocky hills Murph tells me. Get back to Micks and we pack up have a shower and off to the farm stay where Mrs Rider X has laid on a feast for the tried riders.
All up a great weekend. I met some more old bulls and havenāt met a bad one yet. Huge thanks to Mick for organising his own birthday ride and all the guys involved in leading, sweeping and putting the tracks together. You guys have some of the best tracks Iāve ridden.
March 8, 2010 at 8:02 pm #172852One thing that I failed to mention. Did anyone happen to notice how my superior riding skills combined with my state of the art trailbike made that Perrelli Scorpion rear tyre I was running, look like the ducks guts on the Big hill climb???
In all seriousness, I am very happy with the way that tyre hooked up on Saturday. Get onto Mal at Suttos while the special is still on!!!
March 9, 2010 at 8:31 am #172736oh…i forgot this photo….Saturday night…the small ring of Knowledge…and Mirth
