Just for a laugh, I ripped the front of this arvo to rotate it before the Nundle trip.
But imagine my reaction after cleaning & checking the rim & inside of the tyre, when I realised I had put it back on the same way  :pinch: Doh
So I then did what I should have done first & put a mark on it with a paint penA little tyre changing practice never hurt anyone I suppose (it has been a few months since I last had to do it)
October 22, 2011 at 5:04 pm #203802Hi TB, Nickj etc,
now that you guys have given the Mitas Dakars a decent trashing on your Silverton, Oodnadatta, SA ride, how do you rate them against say the Dunlop 606?
I am looking for a decent trail set up for next year’s Tenere Tragics ride and your input will be most appreciated
Cheers, TT

I ran a 606 on the recent ride and only got 2500km before the grip was all but gone , it didn’t look too bad but the traction was very poor.
The E09 s that were on that ride wore much better but I think you need to run higher pressures on the hot fast days as flats were hard to detect due to the harder side walls. This resulted in ripped tyres due to running flat !
Krusty said he wouldn’t run a front Mitas again as it wasn’t aggressive enough and offered little grip.
My next tyre will be an E09 rear but I will take the time to adjust pressures when needed

Yeah basically the same as Nick said previous post TT. Only from experience on this years High Country and beyond ride (like the conditions you will ride in the TT ride)when we hadn’t heard of an E09, Steve from Adventure Moto talked me into one (Also purchased it from Steve  ) I was nervous to say the least after trying a TKC last years Camerons ride. The tyre performed better than Nick’s 606 which was ran side by side. It also did nearly 5000kms before I took it off, I also kept it for a run out later. They have a lower profile than most tyres so like Nick said a bit more pressure in the rocky going. The E09 is now my rear tyre of choice for the Tenere with a pressure of about 28psi for all conditions except sand

October 22, 2011 at 6:56 pm #210742With the right pressures for conditions and weight, it is a great tyre!
It had plenty of traction, it felt great and for the time I had it on it had hardly any wear!
I found the only weakness however! The wrong pressure for the wrong conditions with the weight I carried, and no Ultra heavy duty tube being a 17 I got a puncture which was no big deal, but I did not feel it go as the sidewall of the E09 is hard and low profile!
If michellin release a UHD tube it will be a great combo for long distance and high K’s as I said it wore very minimal!
The 606 for the short time I have experienced them were also a good tyre and easier out of the comforts of your shed to fit! But as Nick and TB experienced they wear faster!
Just my experience! Will run one again on the DR!Dejay
October 22, 2011 at 8:12 pm #203803Thanks guys, so would you recon a Dakar for the rear (running proper pressures) and a TKC on the front would be close to ideal for the Tenere?
Cheers, TT

Michelin Desert front is what Nick and I now use, DeeJay has used it also. My only problem with the Desert is the slightly lower profile, if you are having a go you can dent your rims it seems. I only have two dents, one was with a AC10 Michelin and the other a Desert pretty much the same tread and profile the desert has a stiffer side wall. To be fair more pressure could have been used both times but thats how it happened. I also like the aggressive Dunlop 607 it will make the same miles as the Dakar I think. (I know Mickp gets the miles out of it) I wouldnt use a TKC if they gave them to me for free sorry
E09 rear yeah, if it was to be muddy I couldnt vouch for a E09 and would probably use a 606
Confused
E09 rear (guaranteed wet ride 606) and Desert or 607 front for me

They take a bit of mucking around to find the suited pressures (espacially the front), but have worn well. I am not an aggressive rider due to inexperience :whistle:The front has started to heel & toe and is 50% gone at around 5000k. It gets ridden to work sometimes 3 times a week but that is only 5k each way now
I reckon I might just replace the rear after the Nundle ride in a fortnight (it will be pretty much shot then )with another MT and give them another whirl
Yep, I ordered another MT21 rear today to fit before fridays trip to Nundle
This time I am running a 130 instead of a 140 ,,,,November 1, 2011 at 11:24 pm #203817G’day Folks,
Am a newbie on this site and have been interested in reading the forum members takes on the various tyre brands. Have worn through a couple of sets of Mitas E07’s on my DR650 on a combination off weekly commute and weekend trail riding on all types of terrain and I’m hooked.Cutting to the chase, the reason I’m writing was that I noticed an earlier post asking where to buy these tyres in Sydney. I stumbled onto All Hours Motorcycle Tyres about 18 months ago and they seem to carry good stocks of Mitas tyres. I have steered a few country mates onto them and they have been happy with both the price and service. Their email address is allhoursmotorcycletyres@gmail.com or phone 0414 55 77 95.
Hope this helps some of you guys out.
November 10, 2011 at 4:40 am #210741I run dakar eo9’s on this years tenere tragics ride and I’m still on the same set.
I rode the bike from Adelaide to yunta then cross country to arkaroola, then done
The ride and rode home on them and used the bike for on and off road riding since.
I am just considering replacing the rear tire now but would probably get another couple
Of thousand out of it if I tried.
What every one is saying about pressures is right , they are crucial but I can’t recommend them highly enough, I wouldn’t use anything else any more.
As for price, everywhere is retailing them for around $170-185 rear, $140-160 front.
I get them from road-race in Adelaide for $135 rear $115 front whitch is f*&king brilliant..November 10, 2011 at 7:33 pm #211567Tenere wrote:I run dakar eo9’s on this years tenere tragics ride and I’m still on the same set.
