I was at the local motorcycle shop today (Cowboy Bob Cowleys retirement village) and he had a nice 2000 model XR650R with a few nice extras like big brakes, that was owned by an old racing mate of mine since new, 18000 ks for 4.5K, seems like a good buy to me. What’s everyone else think?

I’m just starting to think of slowing down a bit in my old age and they are the best thumper of their type around………..

For shame Bruce, going away from the blue brotherhood.

XR650’s are a good bike. Only wish they had an electric leg.

Top bikes, exellent on the wheelstands too. A mate of mine has one and i love having a fang on it although when we get into the real tight stuff i’m happy to give it back to him. I’ve got it stuck on some hills and could’nt kick it over so i just turned around and went back down and had another crack and all was good.If ya happy pushin the weight around i reckon they are a great trailbike for all conditions and terran. Once ya got used to it would be a weapon if ya wanted it to be or just heaps of fun of the bach wheel and heaps of wheelie action. shit ya can even ride it slow and it would just tractor away all day. cheap and reliable with maintainance too and look kickarse aswell which is important, hahahah. :)

Come over to the dark side BC…

It is a bit late for April fools isn’t it? ;)

Edit: I can laugh (old before my time perhaps) because my retirement plan for riding involves a saxophone and a V-strom!

Do what floats your boat at the time Blue. I driven a tractor that big before so I can’t comment on super low range, blades and rippers  .

TB seems to peddle his around ok and if watch the Dust to Glory a thousand times you’ll buy one tommorrow. :)

think it just comes down to what type of riding you like bruce and just get the bike to do the job or even better keep the 250 and have the best of both worlds .the xr s are easy to kickstart to but spose you no that

I love mine, I thought my XR630 was a great bike…..untill I got my fiddy. :woohoo:

The longer you own a Big Red Pig, the more you love them.

I’ve owned and ridden a lot of bikes and nothing comes anywhere near the XR650 as the ultimate all rounder. Single track one day and holding its own on the Pacific or Oxley Hwy the next.

I’m only thinking about it as a second mount for more adv riding with a good setup, set of pillions, long range tank and upgraded lighting, just a thought.
Simmo who owned this one spares no expense on servicing, he has 3 or four other bikes as well, just wondering if one will come around again like it.

Probably won’t get one yet, but the seed is planted.

Wash your mouths out brothers of the 2T clan there will always be a 2T bike in my shed, sometimes they have 4Ts sitting alongside as well.

I sent TB a link for one I was looking at with a $3,500 buy it now price on eBay and a $3K starting price. It looked immaculate and had 12,000Kms on it.

If you’re keeping your smoker Bruce I think you’ll love it as an ADV/do it all sort of bike. Being such a hardcore 2t and hard hitting MX bike fan I can’t see you ever owning one by itself though :P

Get a kid from the local school pay him a 50 to push you around in a stroller.
Then after that decide if you want to go slow.
