Dear all, thanks for your help with my last post – ute or trailer, I ended up buying a Hilux ute as I also need something to get me to work.

My next dilemma however is how I secure the bike to the tray of the ute. I was looking at those wheel chocks -do you think thats what I need? I have tie downs etc but without something holding the bike centrally I am worried the bike will float around or fall over. I think the bike (KTM 350) is too long to go parallel against the back of the cab? so its got to go in the middle on the tray – hence the reason for my question..

As always all help appreciated, perhaps I will get the chance to ride the bloody thing soon!

When you tie it down Wardy, have the ties pulling it forward against the front of the tray. That way the front tyre is hard against the floor and front of the tray and wont go anywhere. The ties will keep the back reasonably stable but another rope or ties just to stop the sideway movement is a good idea.
The other thing you should so is get something to brace between the front wheel and the underside of the front guard. The main reason is to stop putting too much pressure on the forks and potentailly blowing out one of the seals. The other thing it does is to also lock the front wheel a bit and also limits the bike movement.

Just don’t be like me and forget it’s there all the time, it makes it harder to get the bike off.

One tie down on each side of your bars to the front of the ute with a seal saver in place pull tight and tie off the tie down strap so it doesn’t slip. I put a strap around the back wheel and down to the tow ball to stop it moving around.

I think the most important thing is to make sure your front tie downs aren’t rubbing on anything or they’ll rub through , break and leave your bike on the highway in no time :(

So as Jeffro said !!! :D
