Ok, here’s the story as best I heard it at the time. Apparently one bloke was flying along beside a fence and went a little bit off the track. He hit a stump and the bike flipped and went end-for-end over the fence, throwing the rider about 15 metres, also over the fence.
The next rider took the same line and had almost the exact same accident, only ended up not responsive with concussion. Both bikes were unable to be ridden out and both riders had a ride in the white vhicle with red crosses on them. Apparently the injuries were not too serious.
And that bike looked worse in real life… man it was SPIFLICATED!
April 29, 2009 at 11:56 pm #131515This bloke had to pull out at the first service on Day 1 with a dislocated elbow or something similar. The bike was pretty well mashed too. the mapreader was almost totally flat!

AnonymousHow fitting that the other bike that trashed itself should be a Yamaha after Bruce’s smug comments
April 30, 2009 at 12:04 am #131520Yeah, safe to say the brand of bike was not the problem! More to do with high speed, competition machine meeting solid unmoveable object!
I was interested that there were only about 3 250 4t’s in the race. If I go next year and finish there is a good chance I’ll be a placegetter!
   :cheer: :cheer: 😆 😆 :cheer: :cheer:

As for the very capable engines that KTMs build what’s the point of all that speed if you can’t control it, ahh a 4.1 litre Cortina springs to mind here:P .

Natural enemy of the PDS
May 1, 2009 at 1:42 am #131744Well I know two parts of stuff-all about suspension and all that, but I was watching the TBAM DVD the other day – the Hattah Desert Race bit. A KTM went past the camera and Lo and Behold hit a square edged bump and the thing nearly threw the bloke fair over the bars. I guess this is what you mean about the PDS, eh BC? Never seen it before, but it looked nasty! Other bikes didn’t seem to have the same problem at this point in the track… by which I mean non-KTM’s. Just an observation… I’m not anti-KTM as such, but thought it was interesting, that’s all!
