    1) Is there any difference in 4T muffler packing and 2T. Don’t want to look like a tool going into the local shop if there is no such thing as 2T muffler packing.

    2) I have seen a few videos where people have the packing taped up before sliding it back in. Can you just use plain old masking tape for this or does it have to be some fire proof stuff.

    3) My bike seems to smoke a bit more than normal lately. Is this a sign that

    a) I’m looking behind too much, I must be riding slow if I’m not looking where I am going
    b) jetting issues
    c) muffler packing is stuffed
    d) the mosquitos have been thick lately and my bike is trying to protect me from ross river.

There is no oil dribling out of the muffler. The expansion chamber is not oily and doesn’t have any/much carbon build up (had it off 15 hours back).

    Thanks

The tape is only on there so you can get the roll back into the pipe. You would not think may adhesives would handle the high temperatures. So the only reason for a special tape would be so that it did not melt and put crap all through the packing. I did Charlies TTR 50 but did not use any tape. I re packed the YZ pipe I fitted to the WR and just used plane old sticky tape.I replaced that one with the stock one but it seemed to work well. Some new diesels have a particulate filter to reduce emissions but I doubt the size of the can on an 300 EXE would effect that much. Obviously some oil smoke would be absorbed but you would have to replace it every ride to catch it all. Will be behind the smoky old beast this weekend so I WILL tell you if it is excesive. If it is running rich there it will be interesting to see how it goes over here in the hills. My bilke would run alright in tamworth but at Nundle it would play up a treat.
