Great day even though the starting numbers had dropped from 12 to 8
Highlights
Watching the crew attempt the first test coming out of the train cutting
Tims single
Different lines to the train tunnel
Awaba single
Watching some crew practicing at MX track
Dan showing us how to not wheel stand at the top of a hill (thought we were going to wear a DRZ)
Singles to the Gap
Lunch
Tims and my single
Amazon
Quarry
Riding home from Heatons lookout without a rest.Amazon was its usual hard assed test piece. Stage 1 and 2 were made with bits of help, then onto stage 3 with everyone helping each other. This is where Dans bike started blowing fuses and after Mal and Dan having a bit of a play with the electrics and me throwing all my spare fuses at it, the decision was made that Dan try and limp the DRZ home.
After stage 3 we had some great flowing up hill sections and actually got into 3rd gear. we stopped for a group photo under the cliff line and then on again into the rainforest. Stage 4 was a tricky little bit squeezing past a huge log. It was wet hear as usual and made for a few failed attempts before getting everybody through. Stage 5 caused some greif for Scotty whom after a couple of attempts handed his bike over to Mal. Mal tractored the little 250 up the slab with style and then we had some sweet uphill single to get to stage 6. I was going to take the easier option and go left but at the last minute changed my mind and hit the tree root steps with a little too much confidence and flipped the 525 with me rolling back down the hill After regaining myself I headed for the easier left version and manage to mess that up too Feeling angry with myself I took off up the last section of tight single before reaching the road. We then headed for Heatons Lookout for a spell
Took a few diversions coming back down the mountain and decided that we would not go down to Bangalow as time was slipping away. Headed back via Becks Rd and into the quarry where everybody made it up the baby erzberg hill
The group had agreed that we go straight home after that so I lead off and found our way home, be it the longish way. Mal had a big 4th gear crash around a bend covered with railway balast and luckily got up without a scratch. After one more snotty single drop off, Mal mentioned to me that we needed no more singles which worked out great as we were only 1/2 a km from the cars.
Thanks to all for the great day
8 starters, 5 finishers.
Pics to come
Cheers

Had a 1.5km swim race thing, came 3rd, :cheer:
Then headed off to the Gap to meet up with the Murphberg crew and just got lost.
Rode heaps of single track and came a gutza on a rock step down  anyway I was at Sugarloaf. Contacted the crew and met them at Amazon,Not much of a crew left at Amazon but everyone was going up so, so shall I young Diddel ( young people heal fast won’t be long till ya on the bike again). 😆
Much easier to ride up Amazon in the dry.
That one rock added to stage 3 rocks and made it a pleasurable accent.
Then rode home grade 4 trail to polish off a great Murphberg.
Though I only rode ½ of it.
Finishers were Murph the surf, Mal 5.1, Pikey, Scotty H and Dude
Another great day.
March 7, 2011 at 6:00 pm #197836Well done to the participants. It’s a great ride that. I will be attending the next one for sure.
March 7, 2011 at 7:04 pm #197843Some good looking trails Murph,Hope to get down there one day.
Ps I like your tips for a good rideI reckon they or something similar would be good in “ride Gatherings” under the “conerman system”The “nod” means the leader only has to turn around once.
Cherrs EvMarch 7, 2011 at 9:06 pm #197826Well done guys I see a few had issues leaving the railway cutting I know the feeling……….
Murph is Amazon getting any easier the more times you ride it?? Or is it constantly changing?
I’m Looking forward to having another crack at it sometime.March 8, 2011 at 10:34 am #197867Hey Mick
It would take a big team effort to get the 650’s up some of those tests but nothing is impossible mate
Your welcome any time:woohoo:
Come on up Axel. Should be running Southend Wato’s, Basin Runs and Amazon assaults all in the Murphsberg way right through winter:woohoo:
Same goes for you Ev
Badbowie, Two weeks ago I would of said that yes it does get easier each time but after Sundays ride I’m not sure.
Nothing changes as its all rock, but the weather can be a factor:ohmy:
Cheers
MurphMarch 8, 2011 at 11:02 am #197827Great report and photo’s Murph I would like to thank all the boy’s for a ride that had a bit of everything thrown in from nice flowing singles and that monster of a hill (Amazon) .It sorted me out with some aches and pains that I have not had for quite a while ,The Murph done a awesome job in the lead and thanks to Mal & Dude for riding sweep allday. After I worked out how the cornerman rules worked it made the ride flow without any problems. Looking foward to the next one Pikey

March 8, 2011 at 8:45 pm #197878Man you how to put on a hard ride Murph. :woohoo:
This ride was phisically and mentally hard. The anxiety before amazon was intense. And tracks leading up to the Gap were prime singles and a few fire trails to save energy for the assult on amazon.
Amazon is as hard as it looks. I would like to see a pro rider take it on and show us the technique needed to stay on the bike all the way up. At the top of stage 3 Murph said to me (while I was trying not to spew up) that by tonight I’ll want to come back and try again. I said not a chance dickhead!!! But he was right, that night over a few beers we were breaking down the stages, I want to go back now a try to better my first attemp by staying on the bike longer and not pushing it up.
Thanks for a great ride Murph. Except for my sudden departure from the bike.
Thanks to the guys that turned for the ride. It was great to catch up with DanD and meet some new faces.
I’ll be back in winter Murph. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

We’ll have to do a mid week shift worker ride up there Twobanger. :woohoo:
