    Hi Lotsa and Tryhard,

Wow what an epic read, pic’s and video. Not only have you guys captured the essence of adventure riding you have successfully made us all jealous :pinch: . But the positive is that you have motivated me more to get out there and give it a go :woohoo: . Thank you.

    Kat.

Nick, the sand wasn’t that deep, although it took a bit to get going after a stop. Keep the speed up, pick a good line (most of the time there was a tyre track to follow) and let the bike float around under you.

It’s a lot more comfortable doing these types of rides on an adventure bike that an enduro. It’s a great way to see the country and cover distance unsupported.

Thanks for the tip Lotsa, I really enjoyed the small amount of sand riding we did last year on the Cameron trip and can’t wait for more !!

    Hi Nickj,

I can highly recommend the Simpson Desert… best to get there then learn how to ride on sand…… makes it more interesting…… just make sure you got West to East….. nothing like hitting Big Red at the end of your experience rather than first up…. put it on your bucket list!!! Makes any sand experience after that a breeze.

You had better check around a bit if you are going this June Lotsa as there is heaps of water around

This was taken from another forum

. Water was 1.5m higher before big red than last year. The shire thanks to Brooks pty ltd are gonna put a track around the water that will go right down to the sa border than back up again. That will give you access to big red but then there will be eyre creek to deal with and that is gonna take a while to go down. Don raymonds at adrea said it is a damn sight higher than last year

There is more but the general drift is that they are saying the simpson may not be passable before Finke and that’s the 12 of June

BTW Piecrust is a local at Bridsville on ADV

I will PM you a link

I also read on the same forum canoeguy is looking for someone to drop a tractor tube out there for him, not sure which way he is planning, although there will be a way to get bikes through if you feel like a winters swim in the desert

Good link TB, I expected as much but have my fingers crossed.

Stuart, the tractor tube would be interesting.

Thinking of hooking up with Mickp who is doing Mt Dare to Birdsville in a 4wd after Fink and cutting him loose when I know I have enough fuel to get to Birdsville.

Dave aka thecanoeguy worked for Magnus (might have been on Katgirls trip), Magnus has some videos of him floating a bike across a river
