Day 3 had some awesome tracks and was more on the endurance side of riding for me anyway. There was nothing really technical I just couldn’t cruise on the open sections I had to keep pushing to stay on the minute. Even though I was only a restarter I was riding to the times sort of. Donna and TB were very casual as well. I would turn to a control early and TB was playing his DS and Donna was sowing. I had to beep the horn to get them out of the car.

The tracks were mixture of nice flowing pine singles to very tight pine single to nice open flowing (typical) Sunny Corner rocky sections. Through in some fresh singles straight the side of some hills and your arms are in for a big day. My arms started to get lazy half way through the second loop and my head started flooping around so I back off a bit and had a quiet word to myself. Then I got back into because I knew the sweeps were on their way.

The event was very well organised and guys setting the course have done a great job. I heard the guns really enjoyed the course as well. ;)

Us restarters get to have an early run on the final moto today so that will be fun. :woohoo:

Donna and TB had a chance to take some photos videos and I will post them up tonight.

    Good onya Mal
When Mick mentioned your broken throttle cable I thought that was it for the riding :(
Didn’t realise you could restart and continue riding. Not as a racer but still great to have a blast on the tracks laid out :woohoo:

Day 3 some pics and some thoughts

At this stage I couldnt believe Mal had had all the luck, all bad :( Through all that had happened he continued to smile and plug away at his event like a champion for a first ever race he had taken the big one by the tail. This event was the toughest 4 day we have had for some time in Aus, its the way the premier Australian enduro should be as well.
Donna was so unreal looking after Mal and myself as well she went non stop for the week that the event was for us. It was a big week, it really sunk in on saturday evening while I was washing Mal’s bike what he had done and how well he had done it. Quietly spoken, no fuss, take the hits and just get on with the job sign of a Champion

Medogrocket was awesome this event, he battled sore hands the last 2 days through all this he stayed on his minute day 2 and 3 only to lose a couple of minutes in the work period at the end of day 3 because of a rim lock that wouldn’t play the game. Great effort Tim you are the man I tip my hat to you sir ;)

Thanks to Doona for putting up with me and my ways in the car, for the great feeds you laid out and the packet of picnics you let me eat in about 2 hrs  Those curried eggs sandwiches were gold cheers Don. ( IS DON IS GOOD!! :P )

Right now all thats said he some action from Day 3

Mal in the work period looking super relaxed (at last) we stood there and looked at one another and realised there was nothing to do

Then loan DR Boony for you, Mal might tell you how ol mate took a fairly large dirt sample in front of him

    Congrats Mal and Tim.

Having the privilege of being able to get a very ‘close’ look at the action, and the pain and torture these guys endured, I can say they have ‘bench racing’ and bragging rights for many years to come!

As TB has said this 4 Day has been the toughest for many years, and the ‘local’ guys we looked after all 7 of them plus giving Mal encouragement and snakes all crossed the line.

Some notable bits from our point of view:

[ul][/ul] One deciding to change out a front fork-leg then spring at first morning work period, are you joking,, (done in 8 minutes!!)
[ul][/ul]A minor timing error on day one from one of the service crews.
[ul][/ul]a certain Berg pilot waving and the bike falling over, with 1 tie down still attached.
[ul][/ul]Speaking of waves, the Hamster waving at a few of the sweeps he knew only to hit a stump and sail over the bars right in front of them.
[ul][/ul]same rider different ‘special’ binning it on the line at one X-test, in front a lot of us.
[ul][/ul]A busted mangled and contoured sprocket, and hub, TIME TO CHECK SPROCKET BOLTS BOYS!
[ul][/ul]A discussion about soreness in parts of a mans anatomy that men really should not speak about.
[ul][/ul]the effects of a collision with an immovable pine tree shaped object and the bruising that followed.
    Final Moto:
[ul][/ul]the Doc himself battling his way to 2nd , only to succumb to fatigue to finish narrowly in front of a girl!
[ul][/ul] Joe binning it on turn 3 then coming back to cross the line ‘a fork-leg'(2tenths) in front of medogrocket..
[ul][/ul]later towards the end of the E3 race hamster leading Grabbo, through a few corners!
[ul][/ul]Trying to get rid of the bloody blue tickets at the presso !

We now know that next year is Mackay in QLD, over Easter, sorry we won’t be there too bloody hot!!!

Thanks to all the guy who helped out at service and for evervone for a great week.

And Again Congrats to all the Boys for a sterling effort!!!

    Cheers
    MacKa….

On a side note – While I was getting the rock star treatment on the side of the road, the lead riders came into the time check and a KTM rider waved and yelled “HEY MAL5.1 AND TB” as he rode past. I couldn’t get the number off the bike and TB and I could only assume that it was Dick Dastardly the sneaky bugger as he has mention that he was riding the event.

Dick was there Mal5.1 well worked out Dick did it fact see you there in your chair Dick also worked in the same lane in the paddock as you Dick watched you on day one work period as Dick was finished Dick did very well even if Dick must say so himself Dick had no trouble with the bad hill or anything a trouble free run as far as the special tests and tracks Dick would like to thank all concerned as far as running what Dick sees as Australia’s top off road event
