Recently a new section of forest became accessable within 5 minutes if my place. We used to ride there as kids but when the Freeway went through and a Booral plant went in, the access was blocked. The only way in was to go through the front gates of the plant so it looks as though only the neighboring properties and workers at the plant had been in there with there vehicles doing fence work or cutting trees for firewood. There are survey markers going in all over the place now so I don’t know how much longer I will be able to ride there, regardless I have been cutting some singles over the past couple of months.
I found a couple of old ones that went nowhere due to the forest growth and set about linking them up as well as making new ones. I have probably spent as much time off the bike ripping out lantana and pruning back native trees as I have actually riding. So far it has cost me the bottom buckle off both my boots and as I have used the WR as a bulldozer a few times the radiator shrouds have copped a bit of a hiding. I was out ther one day for 3 hours but only about 45 minutes of that was riding, the rest was track clearing.
So far I have added a couple of nice new ones and linked up some old ones and was working on another new/old one on Sunday when I came off and wounded myself when I joined onto an existing twin track that had some narrow ruts in the long grass that brought me undone.
When I went down I winded myself pretty good and lay there catching my breath for 5 minutes or more while the bike was laying on it’s side. Once I felt ok again except for the ribs I picked it up but couldn’t get it to start. Assuming it was flooded I removed the float bowl plug to drain it but still couldn’t get it to start. Not feeling at my best I rang a mate that lives only a couple of minutes away to pick me up then treked out to the road to meet him. He dropped me home and I went back with my car and picked the bike up which was then just pushed into the shed as I needed a beer more than I wanted the bike to start.
This morning I came out to the shed feeling a bit better than yesterday (except for when I sneezed, man that hurt  ) and found a puddle of fluid under the bike. A quick sniff check found it to be petrol and as I was looking a saw a drop come from the air box. I took the side cover off and a heap more petrol came out and from the tide mark on the filter there had been at least an inch of it in there. I tipped the bike on it’s side with the fuel turned off to make sure there was no more fuel in the airbox and once again I drained the float bowl and got it started so happy days, no real damage. Filter has now been cleaned, just need to oil it up and wack it back in.
Anyway, I was also out there Friday filming bits and pieces which I have made into a clip as has been the popular thing lately. It’s available to be viewed in 1080 to make it a bit clearer if you can wait for the slower download.

Thanks Eagle, thanks Aido.
I rode with just a Tshirt Friday and again on Sunday so I have skin off my arms from tree whipping as well as the fall so yeh, definately need to do some more trimming work. Even that first bit that I cleared has started to grow over again.

I am lovin those alternate angles. I noticed your GoPro was still attached so you were using a second camera. Unlike the GoPro the camera you used had an auto focus rather than a fixed aperture which searched for focus as you rode through the shot and gave a great effect. What were you using as a second camera?STM
October 22, 2012 at 9:17 am #231161I used the camera they gave me for use at work when I do my inspections
It’s an Olympus Tough, they are shock proof to a couple of meters for a drop and waterproof to about 10 meters.
I was really happy with the way I tied that section in together, it seemed to flow really well I thought.
October 22, 2012 at 9:19 am #231138Nice vids Jeffro. It’s always fun exploring new trails. Did you use different setting on the gopro for the first vid it appears to have a different ratio to the second one.
Its interesting you used your Tough camera for second shots. I did the same thing today with my Nikon Aw 100 (Nikons answer to Olympus Tough series). I am editing vids now and will upload tomorrow.

I agree completely mate. The shots of you approaching and riding away from the Olympus meshed perfectly with the GoPro footage.

It was the same settings when recording but after editing I just saved it (using windows live movie maker) for computer use instead of saving it for HD playback.
