They are a great bike,i had a 96 model for a few years and i still reckon it turns better than my current 08 KTM 450.
Best mods i did to mine was put a flat slide carby on it and a braided front brake line.
Gotta admit though,it is great having the button now.
You live in a nice part of the world.
Catch you on the trails some time.
Cheers Marty
May 6, 2012 at 11:37 pm #221155Thanks Marty for the postive feedback mate. I am in the process of getting braided front brake line and a stantune exhaust full sytem. I have bar raiser kit on it the down fall for me is that im a short ass and have difficulty touching the ground flat footed since the suspension has been completed.
Also why im at it does anyone know of any members in Wagga Wagga area thanks OS XRBMay 7, 2012 at 1:34 am #220990I used an XR600 brake line on my old XR400. Was the going mod in the day. They were a great bike. my brother still has my old one(96)that I bought new. Was about the 3rd one they sold in Dubbo. Ballards re-valved the suspension and apart from that was a stock bike.
I rode it again the other day and it surprised me how good it still is to ride. They were a great bike. Why did they not go electric start and keep the XR name going???????
Enjoy it mate! No big end bearing failures or valve problems with an XR4 lol. Solid as an axe.May 7, 2012 at 1:49 am #221188Yes that is another good mod, i also put a Staintune on and was very happy with it.
Looks like a great spot where the bikes are parked.
Do you guys do any weekend camp/ rides down your way that some of us OBT’s could join in on sometime.
Catch up soon mate.

May 7, 2012 at 9:26 am #220991Hey … great to hear about your XR400……. I too love mine but got myself an XR400M that has the electric start. Too hard for a girl to kick over the XR400R. I have it setup for adventure riding (plus had it lowered by Teknik’s so I could put my feet down) and it has lived up to the task with some great long rides recently out to Flinder’s Ranges.
