February 6, 2011 at 5:17 pm #195938Eagle`s Day two,
Before sunrise Saturday morning I heard the sounds of Krusty ratting about making a brew & starting to pack up ready for the next days adventure, and what an adventure it turned out to be…
We even passed on the idea of a BBQ brekky with the meat tray we had won the night before & kindly donated it to old mate that was cleaning round the Pub, the thought of hot meat in our bellies and the coming heat of the day made it an easy decision to make,,,A big thanx to Youngy at the Khartoum Hotel for the camp spot & showers , I think we will be back again for sure
Losta , MickP, Tryhard & GavB rolled in right on time & we were soon on the way to Cessnock to fuel up & fill the camelbacks with cold water. Then onwards towards Greta & Branxton & up Mount Durham & Lambs Mountain, which is where it all became interesting!!! Some detours were in need as there were some new Private Property`s cutting the way towards the Barrington Tops.
So we hooked back South East thru Lambs Valley, past Mount Hudson to Gresford Rd, fuelling again at Gresford servo & TB chatted tp the locals & may have hookes up some more trails for us in the future with local guys to lead us round. So then we ripped up thru Barrington Park & into Masseys Creek Forest which had an awesome twisty trail past some farms before a ripper climb which was twisty, loose & marbly :woohoo:
some pics of the guys in the fprest at various spots
The Central coast boys (KTM nuts)
Hot & Sweaty Eagle
This led us into Chichester State Forest, Williams Range & past Barrington House before following the Williams River back down to Dungog where some of us needed more fuel (which turned out to be dodgy to say the least)
By this time it was hot as a 40 Arabian Summers again as we hightailed it to Stroud Rd & all the way to Gloucester. There were a few little stops along the way for Krusty, MickP & myself due to the fuel probs, but we were on a mission to make Krambach for 2pm to catch the Bistro for a burger!!! Luck for us TB got thru on the phone & they stayed open for us, otherwise we would have started to cannibalise each other as we dropped like roadkill   :dry:After all the hot running to get to Krambach, we learnt that Mick & the fellow Wauchopians were running late & some suffering badly due to Mick`s little detour into the “Valley of Death”, Poor Strucky was a shot Duck when he rolled in but recovered later in the evening somehow!!!
Anyway, we all eventually gathered, had some cool drinks & a feed (also gave the garden hose/sprinkler a workout) before having another delay as the Super Commuter decided not to play (SORRY GUYS) after a plug change & a roll start, it got going, although quite sickly to enable the final run to Nabiac!!!Final instalment later,,,
February 6, 2011 at 8:41 pm #195977As I have already said WHAT A TOP WEEKEND :woohoo: :woohoo:
I left home at about 6.50 for a quick 50 klm blast down the Pacific Highway to meet the rest of the Wauchope crew at 8.00am and that was the most tar I’d ride for the rest of the day. As soon as we left Wauchope Mick hooked up some great twin, singles and firetrails as he lead us all to Comboyne Lookout. A Lot of these trail you’d happily ride on your dirt weapon of choice on, but on Big Birta it was a whole new experience. Great trails Mick
The rest of the morning saw the crew settle into a nice rhythm covering some good Klms on some fun trails but then Mick decided to consulted Google Bloody Earth  In truth this loop was fantastic. I didn’t think the NX6fiddy could go some of the places it did. In no time at all this beautiful leaf littered twin trail turned into the downhill from 👿 for me. Big Berta and me had our first parting of the ways as I tried keep her head going in the right direction   With no breeze and the temperature in the high 40’s I was absolutely buggered by the time I joined the group at the bottom but happy to hear I wasn’t the only one to have an off
With the heat really getting to us we headed into the unknown. There was no way we’d get back up the hill we came down and we didn’t know what was to come. We’d gone down so far we knew their had to be a hill climb to come  The heat in the valley was really starting to get to us by this stage so when Puddles, Aero, Strucky and Me came across a beautiful little stream on the valley floor we were straight in. How good was that water  I think that creek saved my life 😆
The Hill climb out was a cracker, long and twisty with a couple of tougher sections. I think strucky was over the trail by this stage coz he shot up the hill like a man on a mission
At the top we all had one of those Thank-F$#k-that’s-over moments, laughing and swapping yarns about were we had trouble :woohoo: :woohoo: It put the A in adventure riding :woohoo: :wooho
I don’t remember much of the rest of the weekend due to my overindulgence of intoxicating substances, but I do remember the Museum. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I didn’t expect to see so much bike history in the one place. There was heaps to see. Anyone who’s into bikes could happily spend quite a few hours meandering around. I have never seen so many and varied bike in the same place. And I can only remember half of them
Thanks to all that came along it was a laugh a minute. Ya gotta love the way OBT brings us all together.
Can’t wait for the High Country. It sounds like my kinda ride :woohoo:

February 6, 2011 at 11:08 pm #195899I would like to thank those that thought of the idea to rally at the Motorcycle museum.. I thought it was a great gathering and the museum and the spread they laid out was awesome.. Thanks go to the Museum staff.. The caravan park was terrible and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone…
Here we are ready to go…
As we were scooting along I noticed Chris T in front of me looking down at his left side.. I thought it was a chain issue.. nope gear selector was gone.. Oh my now what.. I rode back past the last 2 wide bends in the road figuring he must have used it going in or out of the bend.. Sure enough the bend behind us lying on the side of the road was a bright shiny piece of alloy…
Boulder as always was the first to jump in and quickly on the case to secure it to the bike..
Here we are at St. Albans looking for something to eat and or drink however it was closed..
Moving on towards Laguna, Boulder notices that Nicks plate is about to fall off.. All secured..
Boulder needing some fuel not far from Laguna..
Water, Food and a re-fuel near Laguna..
We arrived at Laguna and the boys had a beer as we met up with Eagle.. Here we are getting ready to depart..
Finally around 2 p.m. we made it to Kitchener.. What a Pub and what a great publican.. He let us camp in his court yard and make use of his showers.. We drank most of the afternoon away and had a great feed early evening.. Jeffro dropped in to see how we were traveling..
Around Dusk I pulled my tank off to clean the petcock as I was having high speed surge issues.. TB reckoned it was a clogged petcock.. Good call as that was exactly what it was..
Boulder blowing the petcock clean and me being a goof..
Some shots of the camp..
After a hot night and some sleep we awoke early and packed.. Soon Lotsa, Mickp, Gavb and Tryhard arrived on time and we headed out.. We rode in pairs and Gavb picked up the rear..
Nick returning from a re-con for a blocked off road..
A break and some thinking..
TB having a look to see how steep a down hill was..
Gavb having a sticky beak..
Unfortunately I managed to not take any more photos..
The surge problem occurred again and on the way into Dungog it totally gave up and I pulled up onto the side of the road.. Boulder and some of the other boys pulled up and it was determined that I had no fuel getting to the carby however when placed on reserve she flowed OK.. She fired up and into Dungog we went.. I noticed that the bike would no longer idle when coming to a stop.. At first I thought it was the fuel issue but soon learned it wasn’t..
Upon arriving at Krambach, Booney and the Tamworth boys had already arrived and food was the mission at this point.. Soon after the Wauhope crew arrived and we were all ready to make our way to Nabiac..
My bike wouldn’t start, however a roll start got it going.. Eagles bike wouldn’t start either.. After some troubleshooting he gave it a roll start and she fired up.. We arrived safely at Nabiac and everyone headed to their sleeping accommodation..
Most guys stripped down and showered.. I just stripped.. Funny thing though.. I was in such a hurry to strip off the gear and I just threw everything onto the top bunk.. Later that night when I removed it all and crawled into the bed it was soaked.. I must have pinched the mouth piece on the camel back and it drained in place.. I just flipped the mattress over and then happy days..
The night at the Museum was great.. Great food, great people, great atmosphere.. What more could we have asked for.. They put on a ripper meal and played all these old motorcycle movies from the 70’s and 80’s.. The museum itself was pretty amazing.. In the morning we all returned for brecky and that was a great spread as well..
During the evening I decided I wasn’t going to fight the bike back on Sunday in the heat.. I wasn’t far from home and figured I would take advantage of being close.. My good mate Craig(OWL01) picked up my trailer and drove north.. I offered a spot and delivery to Eagle for the next day.. We laughed and joked as some OWL’s and a Eagle traveled home.. Upon arriving at the Eagle nest we were led to a most excellent setup.. A nice workshop area laid out great.. All tucked under the house.. The main garage area had huge eye-beams you could use to pull motors out of cars.. Very nice setup Eagle!!
I got home around 3 p.m. and shared a drink with OWL01..
All in all I had a great time as usual with an Old Bull gathering.. Cheers to everyone who helped out throughout the journey especially Boulder as he was always quick to jump in and offer what ever he could..

The meeting place for my inaugural ADV ride was set at the servo at a little village just north of Tamworth, this was organised so we could fill our little tanks to the brim and then set off towards our first organised fuel stop, This plan went to poo when it was discovered on arrival at the servo they didn’t sell fuel,, WTF I made a mad dash up the highway 10 ks to Moonbi and filled the narny up and then return to get set to leave. Damus and Billy were waiting patiently; Billy was biting at the bit to let the mighty 230 loose on the open road. There were 2 mates of mine that wanted to take the teneres for a day ride. The where only going as far as the buckets way and then up through Glouster and then back to Tamworth so they tagged along for a part of the trip. We set off at 07.40 and headed out towards weabonga, this road was known to be closed but I knew you could get through on bikes, the lovely road people had just graded the road up to the point it was impassable, this meant the road was smooth as a babies bum, but a slippery as greased pig due to them bloody marble like rocks the grader leaves behind. We made weabonga and the set sail for another little village called niangla. It was about here I thought , i should have looked at Google maps for a third time to get our route as there was a fork in the road and I had no idea which way to go. The coin landed on tails so it was off to the right we went. We found a familiar road and all was good for the rest of the trip to Nowendoc. We topped up the steeds had a drink and then set off towards the coast, I have never seen a road so bloody dusty, you could not get within 200 metres of the bike in front, I was praying my air filter oil was doing its job. We had a few stops along the way however it was to darn hot to stay still for too long, told the crew that our next turn was the Tiri turn off. Powelly (tenere) was leading and bolted; he then went straight past the turn off and just kept on going. It was about an hour later he returned looking sheepish.
We parted company at Dunbrook and they headed to Glouster and we powered on towards the Kramback pub. 12.40 was our arrival time at the kramback where we met Bruce from Mudgee.
The rest of the mob eventually fronted and then it was off to Nabiac.
Job 1 was turn on the aircon in the room at the pub.A few sherbets later we all purchased a 6 pack (in Boulders case a carton) and I was left with organising the courtesy bus,(i thought everyone would have learnt from the poker run experience)and we were off to the museum. That place is awesome. Following tea the ring of knowledge was split into several rings and everyone seemed to be having a good time.
More to come later

February 9, 2011 at 10:29 am #195900Photos from Sonny’s Trail.
Puddles – taking on the hill with ease.
Kram – just finished lifting the NX from about 120 degress. He managed to lift it to the halfway mark and hold it. His first attempt to lift her fully seen his foot slip and he caught her halfway again. It looked like he was going to drop her but with a bit of grunting managed to lift her. Here he is thanking the trail gods for the ride.
We could hear Mick coming back up the trail, it sounded like he was making a full on assult of the hill but the sound of burning rubber soon took over. There was a short pause then another 5 seconds of buring rubber. By the forth time I was starting to wonder what the hell he was doing so I grabbed the camera and headed down the hill. I expected to find Mick swearing and cursing but he had grin from ear to ear and seemed to be loving every second of it.
