December 1, 2013 at 9:36 am #252181Hi all,
Once again a magnificent weekend of riding
Huge thanks to TB, and all of the track setters and sweep riders.
You guys must spend hours and hours finding, riding and putting all the tracks together for us to ride and they are always awesome so thank you very much!!A report to follow………
December 1, 2013 at 10:33 am #252218Another awesome weekend :woohoo:
Great people, great weather, great trails, just an absolute cracker.
I had the pleasure of riding at the back with Lefty on day one and everyone had a good pace up which meant Lefty and i were hooking in at times and having a ball.
I had a moment where i took on a nasty looking hill only to have Lefty beeping his horn at me to let me know i was off route, i was stoked to know this as i wasn’t keen on riding up the rest. I managed to wrestle my bike around and point it down hill and start the evil decent when all of a sudden i was passed by a gentleman on a BMW1200  then another gentleman on a Super Tenere 1200 then another BMW1200    I got schooled  You have to appreciate someone who can really wheel a bike.
The day was rolling along well and at Buraga we caught up with everyone including Strucky and Fuchsy who were also wearing bright coloured vests
As we were getting close and we could almost smell beer i seemed to start having problems with my bike, an electrical gremlin seemed to be giving me grief and may have been caused when i went through the deepest part of the abercrombe river by accident  we kept going until we came across Usi who had done his clutch, so with a vehicle on the way we decided that this would be a good time for me to bail out as well
When we got to the pub it was littered with bikes, tents, swags and people having a good time, it was a cool site to see as we had pretty much taken over the joint.
Woodstock pub definitely a recommended place to stay, very friendly and very helpful.
Thanks TB and Steve Smith from Adventuremoto these rides wouldn’t run so smooth without the effort that you guys put in
Thanks to the sweeps and leads you guys are no good and your bad news, your the sort of people that my mum warned me aboutand i can’t wait to ride with you all again, Legends
And thanks to the unofficial support crew and everyone who turned up, hope to see you all on the next one.PTW
December 1, 2013 at 10:37 am #252219Thanks to TB and crew for putting this ride together, had a great weekend (apart from the lost wallet fiasco), awesome trails and great hospitality,
Thanks everyone for a great weekend….Cheers
MattDecember 2, 2013 at 1:40 am #252222What a way to end the year, and what a year it has been :woohoo: . I have been fortunate to have been able to participate in all of these unofficial Oldbull Nav rides of 2013 and this one sure lived up to and surpassed my expectations.
The weekend began with a very wet solo ride out to Lithgow in flogging rain from Galston, and I have to admit the thought of the journey nearly made me pull the pin as crossing the mountains in the pouring rain isn’t my idea of fun  . The usual weather conditions that see Lithgow shrouded in more gloomy weather were reversed, which to my surprise saw it bathing in sunshine and after what I had just ridden through to get there to say I was stoked I didn’t take the soft option and not go would be an understatement.
A few quick how ya goings, booked in and off for a hot shower after a drenching ride up. The bike shop across the road was handy as I needed some new goggles and once that was sorted it was off to the bar.
For this ride TB and Crash had me partner up with Ghostrider, Bones and Usi and like every other nav ride I have been on it doesn’t always go according to plan usually due to a comedy of errors, missed turns etc etc, and this one was no different. :silly:
Within 5klm from the start at the pub [still on the tar] we had made, or should I say Ghostrider and myself were 1 a piece in the navigational blunders, things were looking good.
On to the dirt and into it saw us get mixed up with a few other groups and somewhere along the way in the dusty confusion we lost Usi.I know the tracks and trails were great but I can never remember the sequence of events on these rides and the day just becomes one big fun blur possibly has something to do with the previous nights festivities.
Somewhere in the pine forest I was behind Ghostrider when he had a massive tank slapper and all I could see was his helmet getting thrown around above the thick cloud of white dust that you couldn’t see $#@! in. It was caused by a set of those tyre tracks that set hard and in hindsight I am glad he came out no worse for wear and in the process warned me that the tracks were there because you couldn’t see a thing in that white dust and I would have stacked for sure.
In keeping with our inability to ride as a group and stick together after Usi became separated off the back we were about to part ways with Bones for a few hours as he was leading at the time we rolled through Jenolan Caves. Both myself and Ghostrider stopped as I pulled over to load the next map on the GPS, not long maybe a minute or two and then away again, but long enough for Bones to disappear out of sight and pull into the carpark which we then rode past head down bum up trying to catch him. :pinch:
The next few hours riding saw some awesome trails that had been in the Feb nav ride and the creek crossing at the hippy camp nearly caught me having a swim but luck was on my side and managed to stay dry.
Knowing how much riding TB packs into these rides the plan was to try and set a good steady pace and make it to the fuel and burger stop at Burrega before the servo was overwhelmed with thirsty bikes and hungry riders which we managed to do arriving a couple hours after TB and Crash but before any of the others so we took a lunch break and enjoyed a great hamburger, which worked out well because with the half hour delay Bones caught us after having waited back at Jenolan Caves for us.
So back into it and starting to feel a little fatigue setting in and the sandy tighter tracks were testing me a little, bike fitness not up to par and carrying my nights accommodation on the back of the bike my wrists and knees were feeling the weight of the bike. The tar run into Woodstock a welcome break for the sore joints and I could almost taste the beer.
Arrived at the pub and enjoyed watching the bikes roll in over the course of the afternoon drinking what probably turned out to be too many beers when trying to back up for the next days ride.
Day two would see just myself and Bones set out together as Ghostrider would be riding at the back with Crash.I was having trouble with riding the little sandy track from yesterday which we were now doing in reverse and it wasn’t long before I came undone and had a little stack, I knew then it was going to be a long day.
We came across Mr Squiggle for the first time of the day searching for his wallet he thought he may have dropped on the track lucky for him it turned up in his gear after pulling everything apart, our second encounter with Mr Squiggle was a little more interesting and hopefully Merlyn will post the vid he took as the hill he rode the Tiger down has to be seen to be believed, it was difficult walking up and down it.
The remainder of the ride saw Grasshopper join us and lead with me following and Bones at the tail due to my inability to work out my GPS so thanks guys , wouldn’t have made it out of the forest without the help.
Thanks to my ride partners for weekend Bones, Ghostrider, Usi and Grasshopper for the great company, help and assistance over the weekend.
Once again to all that help organise support and run these rides thanyou, TB ,Crash ,PTW, Strucky, Lefty, Amy ,Boulder, Wolfman and Yamaha , and anybody else I have left out sorry. Not only was this ride fantastic but the year as a whole was epic looking back on it and one where I have learned heaps from people only too willing to give advice and help.

How good was it!
Cheers YAKKA O1December 2, 2013 at 10:27 am #252187What a GREAT weekend , a HUGE Thanks for the time and effort you put in TB
you rock bud ,to all the guys that did the sweeping , prerunning and all the other little jobs that are needed to get these things running , I dip’s me lid to ya’s , awesome champs
.
Their awesome effort resulted in our joy , the trails and roads we rode were great , I am not sure I fully enjoy riding tight stuff on a loaded bike but that would be my only reservation about the whole weekend , my body feels very second hand after two and a half days on the throttle and sitting on a WR seat :pinch: , but you get that on the big jobs . Again guys and girls , thank you all for the time and effort you put into the running of these events .
Thank you too to Wolf man and his crew for the job and back up they provide , and for the raffle prizes for us riders on Saturday night , My new T shirt fits me well :cheer: .
Lastly , thanks to all the other riders , everyone was great company and a pleasure to ride with , it is unusual in these times to find a group that is so cohesive out in the bush , every time I came up behind another rider they moved over to allow a safe and easy pass . That gets top marks from me as I want to enjoy a quick ride but do it safely so we all can go home to our loved ones with a big smile on our faces and that sort of trail manner promotes that ethic . So , great times were had by me and everyone else I spoke to .
Cheers
AlanDecember 3, 2013 at 10:34 am #252188Over way too fast but I do not think the old body could have taken much more!
An awesome weekend thanks to all who organised it must have been a massive task especially the tying of danger tape around Lefty’s canyon!
Some photos below!
A wave from Matts Cruzin
Nice rest stop near a house in the middle of nowhere with a decidedly herbacious smell wafting from it
Lunch stop and a lovelier pair of ladies you will not meet
Next morning crisp and clear and this bloke could ride (sorry not sure of his name)!!
Matts Cruzin, ridedayjunkie and Steve supporting us all. Thanks Steve.
Katgirl and Mick awaiting imminent arrival of robbo
You don’t get a much better Sunday morning!
about as Lush and green as I saw all weekend!
That road just begged for topping the ole DR outI had a ball thanks to my riding buddies ridedayjunkie, Matts cruizin for not laughing too hard when I fell of twice in really stupid spots!
A broken ram mount and damaged pride were the worst of it :blush:Again thanks TB and all the gang for organising this map sharing exercise
