Gday everyone,
just wondering what everyones view is on the neck brace or leat brace i think there called? Do people use them trail riding, im just havent had any exposure to them, so if it saves my neck it could be worth it.
Any advice would be great.
cheers
Ryno
July 25, 2011 at 8:19 pm #205458Hey Ryno,
After witnessing a bad accident of a mate of mine back a couple of years ago, which he received multiple injuries and was very lucky to have not broken his neck. I use a Leatt all the time now as does my son. It goes on whenever i ride a bike now just like my helmet. Once it is adjusted correctly you don’t even know that it is on. I highly recommend wearing one. It is far better to break a collar bone than the possible alternative.
Cheers,
LeftyJuly 25, 2011 at 8:36 pm #205459I have a Leatt club and I don’t leave home without it. It’s a bit like wearing a helmet now. I just don’t ride without it.
The only coment I will make is the club is better than the adventure as it is more adjustable which can give you more neck movement. The leatt can restrict your vision if you are riding down into a steep creek bank it can be hard to look up at the other side and pick your line.
July 25, 2011 at 9:37 pm #205470I wear a Leatt club as well and don’t leave home without it.
I have hit the ground a few times with it and can feel my helmet hit up against the brace. So I believe it has save my neck from at least muscle strain.
As Gibbit said it can obstruct you vision a little. It took me a few rides to get it adjusted correctly. Now I have the back half cable tied to my body armour to keep it snug down on my shoulders.
The other slight issue is if you do come off big the brace puts a lot of pressure on your sternum. I have bruised my sternum from one off and it’s hurts like hell, but my neck and head were ok so I’m happy with it.
A couple mates use the EVS brace and like it. I’ve seen one of then put to the test a few times and he was happy to have it on.
You can’t have too much protection on I believe.

July 26, 2011 at 12:56 am #205502No Ryno,
Body armour is optional. But if you wear a back protector a set of elbow guards is a good addition.

LeftyJuly 26, 2011 at 1:04 am #205503No you don’t need to wear them with body armour mate. I think all the brands of neck braces come a chest strap to hold them in place. I know of some riders that just through them on and let them float around.
I think they are a good bit of gear.
Try some different brands on for size as some brands cater for different rider size.
Check out this review I did on the Omega. Nice brace, just didn’t fit me properly.
July 26, 2011 at 1:16 am #205460Good topic. I havnt worn one and still havnt been convinced to start.
July 26, 2011 at 2:34 am #205509mal, i read you review, i can certainly see the difference between the braces, is there much of a price difference and is that a club leatt or adventure leatt?

The Leatt Club was around $600. That was back then. Prices would be different now. TISCO from Suttos might be able to help with current prices.
That is a Leatt Club in the photos. The Club has a few handy adjustments to get a good fit where the adventure has none.
Hope this helps.
July 26, 2011 at 3:25 am #205537Hey guys, I purchased an Leate adventure neck brace from Suttos.
It came with a load of clips and brackets to adjust accordingly.
Really good brace, don’t have any of the neck soreness I use to.
And from
Memory it was around 350 about 6 weeks ago.July 26, 2011 at 2:27 pm #205538ok so the adventure is adjustable then and by the sounds of it its pretty cheap investment to save my neck.
July 27, 2011 at 12:55 am #205461Just check on spare parts for the adventure model, not sure if parts are replaceable if damaged, you can basically replace any part on the club model
July 27, 2011 at 2:09 pm #205462can the club brace be used for riding roadbikes as well?
July 28, 2011 at 1:33 am #205463The mantra that gets repeated about a broken collar bone being a cheap price to be paid against a possible neck injury just doesnt add up to me. I know of no other “protective” device that causes other injuries in providing protection. I really have strong concerns about a device that can cause other injuries.
Surly these things need to be tested to an Australian standard. -
