It has a smaller headlight and just a small trip meter, no large digital speedo.
Not sure if it can be rego’ed in NZ. This prolly not an issue for Lazerracer as he is already riding a YZ.March 25, 2009 at 12:26 am #126703It’s probably irrelevant anyway Scotty, how many second-hand DRZ’s still have all that crap still on them? Just thought I’d mention it.
If you have a heart problem, lugging a DRZ around would not be my recommended passtime. Its only a factor once they get dropped or stuck somewhere but that is often enough that I’d rule a DRZ out.
Again, just my opinion, and I have owned and loved both bikes. I’m not trying to be nasty, just tell it as I see it.
March 25, 2009 at 12:57 am #126704Yeah, Ive not had the chance to ride a WR250F yet, will take up any offers though,
. I got to ride an YZ250F at Clarence, great little bike, easy to ride but needed a good clutch flogging to get my 90kg arse moving out of corners and on hills. Would 250F power be an issue for Laser’s 110kg, no offence Laserracer.
Laser have you considered having the YZ426 tammed a little. Mate if ya like that bike maybe a flywheel weight, a tame pipe and some suspension modes could calm it down. End up with a tame and soft but lightweight motocrosser.
I had a mate who got Ballards to do a similar thing to his 2002 YZ250 2 smoke a few years back after he did his ACL on it. He still has the bike and won’t ride anything else.
March 25, 2009 at 1:05 am #126658ok now im sorta confused maybe i should forgo the e/start for some power and lightness/handling and look at a rmz250f or crrmz weighs 92.5kg dry weight 2004 or crf250 94.3kg…kx250f 92.5kg..all 2004 .. have crashed pretty hard with my 426 broke 2 toes recently and that never induced any heart problems its more when im really stuffed and fatiged which doesnt take long, stuffs my 24 year old son after about 4 laps that
maybe i just ride some and see ??the perfect bike would be a ktm300 but i probably cant run to that much $$$$
March 25, 2009 at 1:09 am #126706Wouldn’t be any more of a problem on a WRF than on a DRZ I don’t think Scotty. I am 95kg plus gear most of the time (except christmas!) and have no drama with my WRF.
I’ll give you a ride when we get together next if you like – although I warn you that when I was on my DRZ and test rode a WR250F I was never the same afterwards… It was just the weight difference that surprised me. I would still prefer my RG3 suspension that I had on the DRZ but the weight was a killer. And not just “this bike weighs *** kg”, I mean apparent weight while riding it.

AnonymousShit dude, glad you survived the heart attack!
Since you mentioned you mainly ride single track and forestry stuff I reckon you’d be better off without the weight of the DRZ. I’d go 250F if I were you. Any of them are good really. If you really want extra power, throw a 280/290 (or whatever) kit in it
March 25, 2009 at 1:43 am #126709Now my suspension is working better I don’t have a problem with the weight, only when I gotta pick it uo off its side.
I was down the road here the other day checking the new Husky WR300, woo hoo, lightweight and big power. For some reason in got an itch for a 2 stroke ot the moment. I sure it will pass.
The reality is when I bought the DRZ I was accually looking at the CRF250 but decided I wanted a bike I could also put a big tank on for longer rides.
Laserracer as I said ive riden a YZ250F and it was a shit load of fun. If ya have a preferance for a MX’er, and the button start isn’t a big issue a 250 4stoke MX bike might be the answer. Light, easy to ride and for us unfit bastards prolly faster 90% of the time.

Quote:Thanks guys … Sorry to hear about ya mate husky610 shit 40 is way way to young to die:(Cheers dean may be interested in ya drz is it a E..?? but first job is to sell the yz
Dave the DR is the E model and can be fully registered,it has the digital speedo and all of the aformentioned bits of crap hanging off it. I really enjoyed riding it,yer its a bit heavier, but would not take much to get it sorted,I actually preferred it over my 04 WR450, doesnt do everything fantastic but it does everything well. If you were into doing some touring it would be perfect as it has racks and everything already. The WR250F would be a good choice if you wanted to get into the single trail, but at anything above a constant 100km/h would become tiresome, suppose different horses for different courses. The reliability of the WRF and DRZ is also among the best,I wouldnt even consider the RMZ/CRF/KXF/ktm F and I have a KXF250 too high maintenance. KTM300 or GasGas300 also good bikes and easy to ride, but really siuted to single trail or mx tracks.
cheers Ollie

AnonymousIt’s a good choice mate. They are reliable and are mellow, yet have some power when you give it to them. Best mod would be suspension if you’re coming from a 426

A DRZ can be a balltearer or a soft ride, depending on how you use your right hand! Very forgiving, in that the power is there whenever you want it but never to the point of killing you.
