Choppa, Billt, his mate Dave the plumber and I went for the (i think) first official OBT ride of 2010 on saturday at Neerim Sth.
there were near perfect riding conditions as it had rained thurs and a bit friday. the clay bits had dried enough to be tacky and there was very little dust. it was overcast mainly and mid 20’s.

    just supurbness ;)

i have been up there a bit while off work with some blokes from DBW and a couple of mates and ive ridden some wicked, mainly single tracks… but as usual i have trouble remembering where they bloody were  so we did a bit of hunting

we found a few of the tracks id done, one in particular up a hill thru some pines is wicked, but too short. it looks daunting from the bottom but isnt all that hard. some of the other ones we found were pretty technical. there was one little hill that caught us all out. it looked so pissy but we all stacked on it first go    i made it 3 quarters of the way up (prolly 6 metres  )and binned it and did at least 4 tumble rolls, arse over head, unable to stop, back down the bottom, laughing like a demented hyena all the way.  as i was crawling back up to my bike on all fours i realised how steep it was
im still kicking myself cause my go-pro had run out of memory and missed all our shenanigans on the hill.
everyone eventually got up unaided after a few goes and all was good.

later on after changing the card in the cam, i did JAKs trick and accidently put it to photo mode. turned it on and took off. rounding the first corner i stop to see this…

Dave the plumber…sleeping on the job

luckily i heared it beeping and changed it back :)

we hit another 4WD track which turned into a sweet single and followed it down to some blokes parked off the road. they were young fellas training for the Vic Offroad Series. they get out there twice a week and train. we got yakking to them and they invited us to have a crack at their loop. sweet! we took off and followed it, it was killer. up and down valley, between trees, over roots, a couple of natural jumps, it seemed to go forever. all in sweet loam and the “good” line already cut in by the young enduro guns :) .

i was behind chop and was revving the kato to shit him and try to get him to move over. :P it was too narrow to pass and i had to go bush on a corner to get around him    nearly binning it, only to chuck it a minute later.  giving choppa a good laugh

id only really ridden singles up north before november but since then ive done prolly 8 rides doing mainly that, with some really fast dudes too, trying my best to keep up and watch how they do it. i used to dislike too much technical stuff but now im starting to love it. ive been watching the hells gate and roof of africa DVDs and i reckon ive picked up a bit from those too. ;)

not that i am in any form a comparison of any of those crazy cats
Taddy Blazusiak is now my idol :)

anyway, we kept fangin through the loop and stopped at a little drop off for a smoke and a snake or two. after a minute we heared the young blokes comin down the track behind us. its only lightly wooded there with low ferns and bracken and we could see these blokes weaving around down the valley….like they were on rails!!

and as usual, the camera was full again…D’oh :S

one dude on a suzi 450 was just blisteringly fast. we were all in awe as he launched the drop and roosted past us all in one fluid motion ;) wicked to watch. we let them pass by and continued the last bit of the loop back to the other blokes. one of them was timing the others as he has a wounded wrist. i was saying how fast the guy on the suzi was and he looked at the stopwatch and said..”he’s been doin that for over 2 hours now, he’ll go for the full 3 as hes training for the next enduro”.

all i could say was “holy shit!!” :woohoo: :woohoo:

we thanked them for the blast and took off down the road for a bit and onto some more tracks down to the river for a look. the single loop had all but killed us  and we decided to call it a day, heading back up the road to the cars.

a couple of other noteable points of the day…

Dave the plumber…who cant work a camelbak, bending over to drink with the bladder upside down:laugh:

choppa stopping to answer the phone in the middle of nowhere  (hello, this is hollywood! at your service)

bills picnic rug/breakdance mat he uses to get changed on :P gotta get me one of those myself ;)

the bloody continuous laughing.

It was a great day. I had a ball but I can tell you my legs are still stuffed from all the single track. I need to do more riding to get the fittness up to scratch.

That hill were we all decided to taste a bit of dirt was a lot of fun :) :)

I can not wait until we go there again now that we have sussed the area out a bit better and can find our way back to the cars.

When I sort out how to use this new gps properly I will be able to log the tracks and also make a good mount for it on the bike.

Thanks guys for a great day we all had a great laugh.

    Bill.
