after a late night phone call friday night, i hooked up with Ant, MicknmelD’s brother, and we hit neerim for a morning ride.
there was hardly a car in the car park which suprised me as it was the best day for riding we have had for weeks down here. we didnt have a map, (i cant find mine after shifting house) or any idea where we were going, we just winged it :laugh: :laugh:
it was perfect conditions, no dust, prolly 20-23 degrees, a it of water around and some tricky bogholes and deep rutts.it wasnt the fastest ride as it was just too easy to get used to the loam only to hit a bit of damp clay and throw the bike down the track. Ant hadnt ridden for about 5 months either so we were in no hurry.
i was looking for the “technical” line all day and tried to take on every tree root and step up/down i could. only chucking the bike once…..no damage though. ive been getting into popping the front end of the 300 over obstacles. its so nimble and wicked fun leaping rutts on steep uphills.

we came across a DSE marked riding loop and decided to follow it. it was pissy and only 10km long on mainly dirt roads. it will be great for sammy in the future. i was dissappointed as the last DSE loop i rode with Billt and Leigh was a pearler.
some of the bogs were deceiving with the bigger rutts being shallow and the bike rutts deep. i came across one that had a tree root across the end of it, making it a vertical exit. i tried to wheelspin out of it, pushing like a man possessed, then this happened….

in my 10 odd years of riding, its the first time ive flipped a bike, in any sense. it suprised me to say the least. the only damage was a couple of holes in my number plate and a bruised ego. :laugh: :laugh:
up the track a bit further and we stopped to chat to a couple of husky riders we had seen around. they were waiting for another mate on a DRZ, saying he has prolly got a flat battery from leaving his hi beam on. me and Ant took off telling the boys we would look out for the dead banana.
we got back to the road and sure enough, there it was. i rode over to the young fella and asked him what was wrong. he told me his battery was flat. you should have seen the look on his face when i said “you left the bloody hi beam on again didnt you” :laugh: :laugh: priceless.
we gave him a push and he was off.then the inevitable happened. the one word that is destined to kill any ride was muttered…….

so we headed back to the car and loaded the bikes.
whilst standing around sipping a couple of crownies, some young riders pulled up next to us, 2 guys and 2 girls. they kitted up and one of the chicks wandered over asking us for some fuel. she was just a beginner and was so nervous she had forgotten petrol. we gave her some juice and told her about the easy loop we had found. she was stoked.we finished our beers and headed off to the bakery for a feed and then went home.
it was a good day, and great to catch up with Ant again.
