i went out riding yesterday (man, am i feeling it today seeing i havent ridden since the sunny corner ride) with some AMTRA boys.
we came across a pretty deep river crossing and i managed to drown the Kato
(first time ive ever drowned a bike to be honest)
i nearly drowned myself too. only thing left dry was my head and a handgrip :pinch:
f**k it was cold too
my foot got stuck under a rock and i went down with the ship, like a good captain
anyway, changed the plug, shook the filter, emptied the bowl, etc… and all was good started after a couple of kicks… happy days!
another bloke, AJ, managed to drown his berg 300 aswell. we did all the same stuff to rectify it but it just wouldnt go.
we tryed roll starting it, but still no good.
for some reason it had lost all compression  and could be turned over by hand with the plug in.
everyone was thinking he had buggered a ring or a slug because of hydro lock.
we were just about to tie a rope to it and tow/drag it back up to the main road for recovery when i had a brainwave  as i sat wringing my socks out.
i told AJ to stick his hand inside the airbox while i kicked it over and see if he could feel air coming back out the carby… which he could.
its gotta be the reeds i thought!
we ripped the reed block off and low and behold, there was a tiny piece of rubber holding the petal open about 1-2mm. dunno where it came from, it didnt look like anything off the bike.
f**k me, ive never seen that before!
we cleaned it out, checked the petals, explained to all the 4 stroke boys that were with us exactly what we were doing and gave them a lesson in 2 stroke fundamentals 101
sure enough, we put it all back together and 3 kicks later it was ring-a-ding-dinging again.
thank god really as i dont think we would ever have got it back up the hill to the road without a helicopter or some divine intervention
we rode another 140km and it ran like a dream all day….
unlike myself who was soaked to the bone from my swim in the snowmelt.
maybe this problem will happen to one of you blokes one day and reading this will help someone out of a pickle
i still dont know why i my crazy brain thought of it, but im glad it did
