    G’day all

I just joined the Old Bulls hopefully it will give me good reson to get out, I’m on my second DR650 had one many years ago the current one was bought to ride to the cape as I was working at Horn. Now back in Sydney so mainly a commuter.

Can you guys suggest a GPS as I am keen on the June ride out of Lithgow.

Thanks look forward to getting out there.

Gday Rob, thanks for the intro and welcome to OBT. There are plenty of DR650 riders here, so you’ll be among friends straight away!

I can’t help you with the GPS but there are a heap of guys on here that can offer advice.

    Cheers

    Yeah G`Day Rob,,

DR650 are reliable old workhorses for sure ;)
As far as the GPS goes,, hard to go past Garmin 60CSX or the newer 62S for mid price range, great mapping and routing capabilities and tough as nails.

Or you can go the top end ZUMO or OREGON series which are more like the car units with Bluetooth etc ans wider screens.
However, the Zumo`s have not shown to be as reliable as the good old CSX`s for offroad and desert running

They all run Aus/NZ TOPO maps real well or you can make do with free maps from “SHONKY MAPS” that run on the standard Garmin , depends on how much detail you need for trips you plan. Shonky is suprisingly detailed actually and a lot of guys use it on here as a backup for Aus Topo ;)

TB has them all  He is a GPS hoarder :P He is out at Birdsville and beyond till next sunday, but will chime in with good advice on the units and mapping options when he gets back for sure B)

    G’day Rob, welcome to OBT.

I have the Garmin 60csx and find it easy to use o the run and easy to load routes or tracks on, the weak point is the screen size which some people have trouble seeing on the run.

Thanks all for welcoming me I look forward to meeting up with you all, will get the mandatory GPS for the Lithgow ride and hopefully join in.

Used to ride with a group of blokes up the Kowmung every winter but that’s long disbanded just in my Toyota now hence finding you guys.

I reckon just a typical rider no fancy stuff but get along ok.

TB, if you get any deals let us know

    Many thanks
