Did you have any trouble with the crf 250 04 model? i had an 06 and had to rebuild the head after 5500kms and heard that the 04-05 models were even worse on valves?

Once in two years well yeah but twice, I would be checking my filter maintenance, I spent sometime with the Honda off road team last year and they dont hide the fact that there is a valve issue, but explained some simple facts.
A 250X and a 250R that they raced in motard for a season banging on the rev limiter never had the valves adjusted or required shimming in a complete season of motard including winning the number 1 plate.
A 250X used in cross country / enduro two adjustments and a set of valves per season, dust is the difference, they reduced the wear by fitting new pre-oiled filters every change to the same set a season

I had an 05 CRF250R for a year that I imported 2nd hand from Japan and it didn’t miss a beat, sometimes was a bitch to start cold (10 kicks) but I never resorted to push starting it.
I was anal with both air and oil filters though. Maybe I was lucky??

l have never had any valve issues or any other problems (mechanical)maybe good luck but l dont think so. l have got 3 other mates with crf 250 and 450’s and no one has had any issues . l assumed all the bad talk on the crf’s was an old wives tale! we have found that as long as you clean the air filter after every ride ( everyone does this i know:S ) and maintain the oil you have very few if any issues ( gets expensive oil and filter every 150 to 200 kms but that goes with the territory of owning a crf. i love the honda’s tested yamaha and ktm but still couldnt bring myself to pass up the crf my opinion is it is a great all round bike that suits my hack riding and makes my riding look better than it is GOTTA LOVE THAT :P

Nice ride. I have ridden an 08 250X and thought it was a great bike. The gearboxes are so smooth in the Honda’s :)
