hey champo i,ve got two asus laptops one is 1GB other one is three GB,s very happy with both my boss who is a pooter nerd told me to buy one with dedicated graphics card as it uses memory if it does,nt i don,t understand any of it but i took his advice

dedicated graphics for playing games, better faster rates but at the cost of battery life, integrated graphics for a business laptop or just surfing, emailing, old bulling etc.

Depends what you want to do with it.

    Chris.

    Hey Champo,

Here is a link where you can get Toshiba, Lenevo or a number of other brands of laptops. I have used Harris Technology for a number of years and have found them to be very competitive on price.

My work laptop is a Dell d630 and its a pita – I think the vid card needs replacing but can never get it to replicate the issue on demand. I dock it at work and work off a screen and when I get home and take it out of hibernate it jams up 9 times out of 10 :(

I’ve had three dells, with no problems excepting the last one which had a drink accidently (right…..) poured over it. all have been the business versions (D800, D600, atg630) the current one is a splash proof atg D630. (although should have bought the cheaper D630 and insurance).

They are all fine for the majority of internet work (that’s a code phrase for p0rn right?). even works well with cad apps the odd time that’s needed.

I’ve heard ASUS are pretty good – but check out choice or the computer mag websites for the best and latest bits. six months is a long time dealing with binary bits.

Mind you I’ve never asked mine to hiberbate, replicate or fornicate or any other 8 like aust blue has..

Well Thank you to everyone for the advice!

I ended up going to the computer shop next door to my house & picked up a Toshiba for a very good price (neighbours are so good!!!!) He finished loading all the software & called me last night to pick it up!!! I think he hardly made any money on it though:dry:

So now I have no more excuses as now i have access to a fast working computer I can post more often!

P.S Thankyou Champo – I do truely appreciate it!!

    no worries racy

we found out from the invoice that our neighbor only added $13 onto the wholesale price. then he spent hours in the shop last night downloading, backing up and setting the computer up for us. what kind of neighbors would we be if we let him do that for us. so insisted that we paid more. he has to run a business to feed his family you know.

so we should see a lot more from racytracy on obt now

I’m looking for home laptop too. I was using the Dell D620 business laptop but TB made me drive over it in my car.

Now I don’t know what to get. I’m tempted to get a mac……

You won;t have any dramas with the Toshiba they are a solid unit, you should however take your neighbour a bottle of his favorite drink I’m sure he will appreciate it, I get lots of alcohol this way :P :P :P

I have all your data MOTO off your squished laptop I can burn it to DVD if you want and give it to you.

    Cheers

I was only after the music really Chris. The stuff form Limewire and the stuff saved from iTunes :)

Tyne knew the camera was there, did you see the one where the girl from next door came round to help? :P

The ToughBook is good if you travel a lot with it but they are expensive, laptops are expensive to repair and break downs mean LOTS OF DOWN TIME so probably better to get a rugged one.

I would not buy a laptop unless I really need portability.

Also I have seen the little notebooks all the public schoolies are getting (and they can keep them if the finish year 12), they are impressive and the software they are getting is also impressive, man if I went back to school now I would end up much smarter than back in the old bull days of cane and chalk!
Only saw, fiddled and talked about them so it remains to be seen how well they run with the software loaded up.

These little notebooks are a cheap alternative if the applications are not to resource hungry, and they are light to carry around too so they might get dropped less and not break as much as a full size laptop.

The laptop will only be used around the house, I use my work one when I travel. I will look into the Toshiba range and see what they have :)
