Hey again Boys and Girls. I was at home the other day taking out the lining of my Oneal helmet to wash after the ride west of Wauchope and in pulling out the lining so to came out the styrofoam shell, I’ll admit to having quite a heavy stack a few weeks before the the Warchoppy ride which left me with a headache for a few days. I bought the helmet in 1998 when I was given my XL250S it hasn’t had much use until very recently.
So my question is this, are DOT or SNELL approved helmets a one crash type deal like pushy helmets?
And having already decided to replace it what are peoples advice thoughts comments on a new Lid?
Unfortunately price is somewhat of an issue, ie I wont be getting the brightest blingest supercrosser Arai or Shoei. But the evs Vortek t5/t7 or One Industries Trooper or Kombat or something along those lines is what I was looking at.
Any thoughts ?
Cheers B.W.June 30, 2012 at 6:48 pm #2252691998 holy shit. Im not surprised it is falling apart. As for crash damage I think the manufacturers will tell you if its had a hit it should be tested at the very least. If we did this with our off road helmets i would be getting mine tested a few times a year and I don’t even know who or where to get them tested.
I pull mine apart and make sure everything looks ok regularly and replace them every couple years. I believe they have an expiry date of something like 5 years. Best to be safe then sorry.
I currently have a one industries Kombat which is due for replacing and has a few scares on it. Ive been happy with it but not sure what i’ll get next. I usually go to the shop and try a few on then see what deals I can get.
June 30, 2012 at 6:48 pm #225270Check out the M2R Rev X2.5 and X3
I have a few of them and love em. Aussie brand too.
Plenty of bike shops are selling left over stock on ebay cheap. Last 3 I got for $100 each (Rev X3), rrp is $300 plus.
June 30, 2012 at 7:12 pm #225271I’ll throw in a plug for some site sponsors. I see your up the mid north coast. Maybe give Rock Motorcycles a call, tell him your an Oldbull and see if he can do ya a deal. You could even look at the Suttos website http://www.suttosmc.com.au I see they have the M2R’s that LC speaks of starting well under 2 hungy. Most shops will have some old model lines they want to move on cheap to stock the latest greatest models. At this stage I think anything will be safer the a 14 year old lid.

July 1, 2012 at 10:12 am #225285I have had a few One Industries helmets, a Kombat and a Trooper and have been happy with them both. My son has a M2R that seems to be holding up well and it was cheap enough at around $200, although if you break the peak which is rather flimsy in my opinion (he has broken 2, he had one brand new one roosted off by a 450) you are up for $48, pretty well a quarter of the price of a new helmet.
July 1, 2012 at 11:35 am #225318If you drop your skid lid from waist height onto a hard surface you are meant to replace it. And there is a life span on the. Make sure you get a nice light on preferably in orange 😆
