    Hey all,

Name is Garry and I was pointed in the direction of this forum another member.

Been riding near on 25 years but mainly on road bikes. Eventually got sick and tired of picking people up off the road due to their own ambitions outweighing their ability anmd by then had done and seen all that I wanted on the sealed stuff. In late 2006 I bought a Weestrom as I expected to be doing more dirt touring which was the case, but soon enough I found harder firetrails and, well, while the Strom would try it she was a heavy sucker and difficult to pickup.

So a few short months ago I sold her and got a DR650 which has so far proven to be a good choice. Some may not see it as an outright dirt bike but for me she is so chuckable and light (compared to the Strom) that I can’t start to imaging what 120kg of bike must feel like. Besides, I do a lot of open road riding with speeds upwards of 100kmh so the DR is a good compromise bike.

    Oh yeah, some other stuff.

I live in the Illawarra so have plent of good forestry roads, tracks and trails pretty close by and I get out regularly to make the most of it and enjoy the views offerred by some of the remoter local areas.

Hope to catch up one day.

    Garry

Hey Garry, welcome to OBT. The DR is a trusty stead that I’m sure will after you. Coming from a strom I can see how it must feel light! A few people on here having bigger 650 touring bikes now so you may well catch up with them sooner rather than later :)

Welcome Garry! Good to see you made it here! These guys are a great bunch and know their stuff(ing around)! Lot of fun to be had, and some great rides organised.

BTW, Garry is here on my recommendation so play nice with the new member kiddies! ;)

Good work ECKS, nice to see you drumming up new members as well as coming on here to take the piss out of everyone else

Do you mean to tell me that is unacceptable behaviour here? Dang… Looks like I’ll go back where I came from then!

Hang on, under the forum rules I’m sure it says somewhere that all members are obliged to take the piss out of any other member, especially moto! I distinctly remember reading that somewhere…

Really, Well I nearly had another starter yesterday, a local who I didn’t know rode but who is looking for good places to ride and blokes to ride with. I pointed him at this website but he is not interweb literate. Might be that he will come along on a couple of rides first?

Anyway Garry, the ride TB is talking about is from Zig Zag to Hill End on Saturday, overnight at the pub and back on Sunday. It is organised complete with super-sexy support vehicle driven by moto. Cheap and well organised… sign up mate, you’ll have a ball and the mighty DR will be well suited to it (Won’t it TB?)

The DR will love this ride and you hit the nail on the head with support vehicle (lets not forget Tracy too). As a first ride and meet with some OBT’s I don’t think you get a better ride.

Oh, and yes, we did have a cancellation this morning :)

You’ll be laughing on the other side of your face once I convince you to come on a Catombal ride TB! We’ll see what’s suited to what then!

I would be tempted to join but alas I have already planned a ride with a few others around Nerriga and the surrounding districts so can’t get out. Another day maybe (well likely).
