… the way I feel at the moment, I am more jersey than bull…

I have reviewed your forum for a little while now and felt the “need” to join, so here I am.

I live in southern Sydney and ride a 2009 XT660z Tenere. I was a dirt bike nutter as a kid but as I grew older and life got in the way, my beloved 1993 XR600 went to a new home and I stayed off two wheels… A few years ago, after my brother had a car/bike interface on a trail on his KTM resulting in him being a centimetre shorter with a broken back, we decided to start riding again, a little more sedately. So into the trials scene we went and have been having a ball ever since.

A little after, a mate at work and I were talking about our dreams as 40 very quickly approaches and I mentioned that I always wanted to do a long bike ride – thankfully my mate had the same idea and for once in our lives, we bit the bullet so to speak, and mounted up.

Since then, we have spent days in the victorian high country, NSW Blue Mountains, Tasmania and QLD boarder ranges as we kit up and prepare to ride across to the west. Part of our dream started simply as riding to Perth but as we had more beer, we had more designations to go culminating in a deal to reach the extremities of Australia (Nth, Sth, East and West) before we hit 40… 40 is not far away.

So, much of our prep has been assisted by you guys out there, thanks for that, and we look forward to seeing you on the trail.

For fun and the relos to track our progress, we have a simple little website – we are not great at setting it up or updating it, but is a little fun and keeps us interested while the bikes are in the shed.

Thanks for the advice and see you out there.

    Thanks fellas,

Just hit 17,000k’s and she is only just starting to hit her stride. I put a set of Barretts on it last week and it has made such an improvement to the usability of the bike – I had a TK single on it before but it was just too loud, no one wanted to ride behind me.

I was actually reading posts re the cush drives last night and after I put an E09 on yesterday, I can now see I really need to replace the rubbers, so I can say with sincerity that your forum has really helped me out.

We will do our best to update the site and put some of the videos up – we edit them down to around 1 or 2 minutes as most friends want to get a glimpse of what we do when riding but really are not interested in watching minute after minute of helmet camera footage. Short seems to keep it entertaining.

I will also confess that one video has me, not a small lad, showing off which resulted in a standing start, flat ground, back flip that Travis Pastrana would be proud of… Who would have thought that Tourances would grip the gravel like that… more fool me…. especially for letting it be caught on camera.

Anyway, I look forward to participating and if I can be of any assistance to the community who is so ready to share experiences and helpful advice, then my debt may be repaid and someone else may not be so quick to do a burnout in the Strahan lookout carpark – I am way too old to be a hoon.

Well, my bike is in ship shape condition, all my kit is procured, tested, packed, tested, unpacked and half of it turfed out… but now ready for the final pack, before I remove some more and turf it out and then we should be ready for the big trip across the country… 4 week countdown starts in 5 hours and in the mean time, I am flying out to say g’day to my great great grandfather in France on the 96th anniversary of his death and second anniversary since he was found in a mass grave. Should make the next few weeks go nice and quick! Is it wrong that I know the amount of hours until we set off??? 677 in case your wondering…

Mission complete. We watched the sunrise over the pacific at Byron bay on Saturday morning and two weeks later our trusty Tenere’s had allowed us to watch it set over the Indian from Steep Point. I promise to put up a proper ride report in the next few days when I get home.

    Signing off from Geraldton WA.
