15 yr old daughter has had the same boyfriend for the last six months, a great 17 yr old bloke, big, polite and can carry heavy stuff. he dots on her, not too smart which is just as well she has enough for three teens, and also she is definitely the boss of the relationship, anyway we’ve become quite attached to the kid as he is an easy fit for the family, but at their ages they are unlikely to be like Mrs Cee and I ( we were 17/19 when we moved in together) until today that is……… He is now adopted, they break up she’s moving out I tells ya
Why Bruce i hear you say?Well after 6 months he confided in me he owns a dirtbike and has been riding since 5 off and on but he’s a bit worried to show it to us cause it’s old and a bit tatty, and he’s a bit embarassed of it but recently it stopped running and his grandfather (he’s an orphan) and he couldn’t get it running again would I mind having a looking at it.
Apparently they bought it at auction a few years ago locally from a deceased estate and he can’t tell me much about it except it’s blue and is loud… I immediately think…bloody thumpstar or chinese cwap, anyway Mrs Cee likes the lad so tells him to bring it round and bruce will look at it for him.
So off him and the young bloke go to wheel it round (lives two blocks away) next thing in my driveway is a next to mint (faded plastics only) IT175K/L WTF!!!!!it seems to be on original everything, and has possibly 40 hours on it, but has been out in the weather for a while so the plastics are faded and the seat has some tears, but would be the easiest resto around…..
I told him he is now part of the family as I owned three IT’s as a kid, and had a love/hate relationship with them but have been looking for one or a 200 for ages…
Anyway got it running, then pulled it down to refurb the carby, and guess what?
I actually had a rebuild kit in a can from 1984…..:blush:So we burnt the pipe out, hopefully get it back together tomorrow and he can come out to the farm with the young bloke and I for a ride…….
 👿

September 3, 2011 at 3:05 pm #208138A prospective son in law with a 2T. Hope the relationship between the two young’ns works out. Sound like a marriage made in heaven for you mate. I have ridden a ?1984 IT 200. I think it had a front disk brake. It was sweet. They also had a brand new DT200R so my eyes were fixed on the DT most of the time.

September 4, 2011 at 2:27 pm #208200Ok a few hiccups but all went well, being a teen boy he wanted to make it look newer, so i carefully sotwed the old guards away and replaced them with some YZ/Wr units I had laying around, and put a pair of renthal bars on it for him, a better front brake perch and lever and some little blingy bits I had.
The old round carby slide doesn’t even have a scratch on it, the aircleaner is a bit funny but we got it back together at 5pm yesterday, put some premium mix in it and it fired 2nd kick a little rtweak of the A/F screw and it idled like a sewing machine.
He did a few laps of the yard, then handed over to me.
God those old girls are light, so easy to flick around, the engine is typical of it’s era, very willing and eager but definitely no HP king, but hey fun is the name of the game. Clutch is good , Box is excellent (these models had weak gearboxes) and starts first kick with heaps of compression.
Now the idea is when he gets sick of it or buys another bike i will buy it off him for a fair price, and then local Vinduros here I come……..A poor pic off the daughters Iphone
