Looks like a good thing Choot, I think that’s one of the best additions I’ve made to my ten ;)

Hi Choot, thanks for this post, I will get this for my Ten as well. I have been holding back as I did not feel the need to change my handlebars to a thicker unit as required with the older damper.

By the way mate, are you happy with the handle bar risers fitted to your bike (I have been thinking about them as well 😆 )?

    Cheers

Yes Tenere Traveler’s, there only 15mm risers made it a little easyer on the lower back while standing.

Can’t answer for Choot but I can for Nickj and myself cause we ride together most of the time. The three major things the Tenere needs / responds to are suspension, damper and decent pegs. After that higher bars etc

Nick and I have the earlier Rallye Moto damper ( all the same adjustments ) which Steve at Adventure Moto still have stock off I think. ( can do it cheaper with old bull discount) The only advantage I can see in my opinion between the two is fitting the fat bars as I can get a higher bend with the lift from the under bar kit which is real good when real off roading or long stints on the bike and the strength of the fat bars. The standard ones I found bent real easy and you dont want bent bars on day two of a 6 day ride  all of which is only my opinion Choots is a nice small unit that retains the standard setup if you want that.

Below is the story and pictures of the fitting, sorry if the response is long winded I
am sitting here in the states waiting for people and am bored :P

Fitted my damper today, wasnt the easiest damper I have ever fitted I have to say but worked out great

    Original setup with bar risers

    IMGP0254.jpg

The ignition cover needs to come off, two phillip screws

    IMGP0255.jpg

Once the cover was removed it reveled the steering lock bolts are shear bolts. Once they are tight they shear and it prevents people unbolting the steering lock

    IMGP0256.jpg
    IMGP0258.jpg

I drilled a small hole in the cente and once I was sure it was in the centre I drilled it as big as I dared below the head height

    IMGP0259.jpg

I then used a drill bigger than the bolt shaft size to get rid of the head

    IMGP0260.jpg

I used an easy out and removed both bolts

    IMGP0262.jpg
    IMGP0265.jpg

Both bolts out, ready for the pin bracket

    IMGP0267.jpg
    IMGP0281.jpg

Once done I removed the standard bar mounts and mounted the bar mount bracket, it needed a spacer between the rubber mounts and the bracket

    IMGP0280.jpg

It was now I discovered I hadn’t listened to Steve when he said it is a fat bar mount, I flew down got Suttos and got a few sets of bars so I could try a few before I decided. (try that with your cheap US web shops  )
Once a set was found I bolted it all up and happy days

I then drilled and tapped a thread to mount my GPS

The only other thing need was a fat bat bark buster mount kit

Yes pedro if you do a fair bit of offroad riding on these big bikes It helps alot.

TB has one great setup lots of gear on and in the flight deck, its up to you pedro just keep in mind the hole lot is held in place by two bolts 8mm I think into the top tree , they will bend I found out while my yamaha bars stayed straight. Something to think about. CHOOT

Yeah thats a forgotten point Choot. The whole thing is held together by the rubber bushed two bolts, our kits came with new bolts my others were still straight. Point is though like you say something has to give somewhere.

    Well folks,

I have bitten the bullet and ordered a Ralle-Moto RM2 steering damper. Vaughn recons I should have it towards the end of the week.

In the meantime, as I also need them for the Ralle-Moto RM2 steering damper, I installed 30mm SW Motech handle bar risers. In short, they are great and give me a better reach, especially when riding standing up as I no longer have to have a slight crouch. I tried them yesterday over a 200km ride and felt very comfortable.

    Here they are fitted:

I will try to do a similar post to TB around the fitment of the Ralle-Moto RM2 steering damper. That said, I have never heard of an “easy out” :S so it may be an interesting experience

    Cheers TT

It will all be the same TT it’s only the damper that’s different, smaller as such and you can use the standard thinner gauge bars. Just back sure you drill the holes dead set in the middle, start small and setup. If you can start with a small drill bit, be sure you drill at the same Y and X axis as the anti tamper bolts. When you get up a couple of drill sizes use a left hand drill bit as if it bites it will undo the bolts. I prefer ezi outs but to be honest.

Look forward to seeing how you go

    Thanks TB,

I bought an Eazi out kit and followed your pictures. Removing the shear bolts was a breeze. I have just finished fitting the pin bracket and have just found out that I do not have a 27mm socket to remove the steering head bolt to finish the job..

Tomorrow I am off as soon as the nearest tool shop opens so that I can finish the job.

That said, I am very impressed with the quality of the RM2 damper. It is world class :)

    Cheers, TT

    All done :cheer:
