July 25, 2013 at 3:28 am #246928Here is my 5c on easy outs or any other snapped bolt remover that winds/pushes itself into the bolt.
They are all complete garbage!!!!
I have 2 sets of easy outs that I might use every pancake day. By their action they expand the bolt, locking it into the hole harder and making snapping one off very common. What do I use? Left handed drill bits. I’m on my 4th set. I use them all the time and they absolutely rock. If the bolt is so seized in that a little heat and a left hand drill won’t pull it out a bloody easy out has no chance.
I hate helicoils too. Ok for single use but crap on threads that see work. Timeserts are what you want. Again, my helicoil collection gathers dust after I bought a master time sert kit.

Good info Nick, this should be a stand-alone thread to make it easier to find. I’m pretty sure you have quite a few gems of information like this that could make the average person’s life easier in the shed!
July 25, 2013 at 3:35 am #246367+1 for what Nick said, Left handed drill bits work a treat
July 25, 2013 at 3:53 am #246936I cant write on here what i think of easy outs. It will be censored! I may invent some new four letter words. Try running a workshop and having 25 years of mechanics/apprentices/fathers/friends/neighbours bringing you a part with a snapped off easy out in it and asking you to pull it out.
I got very good at it, Diamond hard disintegrations help for drilling out drills and easy outs.
My disaster solving days got so much easier when i discovered Time Serts, Left handed drills, nut serts and Big serts!July 25, 2013 at 3:57 am #246940Teknik wrote:I cant write on here what i think of easy outs. July 27, 2013 at 9:01 am #246368After meeting up for a few beers and a counter lunch with renown Crf450x legend Bollocks at my local pub , I was inspired to fit some practical bling this afternoon :woohoo:
Bash plate by Force , had a few makes on other bikes and this seems like a well made bit of gear
Radiator guards by force
Lithium ion battery. The packing was perfect to take up the gaps
RHK pegs
And a very practical and nil bling hour meter , ended up finding a good spot under the seat !!

July 27, 2013 at 9:45 am #247115I must admit Nick, that after fitting a new Force radiator guard to my WR I really like how it doesn’t touch the radiator at all unlike the B&B one that I had before, which I believe didn’t really do anything in crashes

I’m hearing you Buzz, I was very impressed with the design and I have always been happy with the B&B but went the Force as that’s what’s on the 250
I need as much bike protection as possible too with your trail tactics

It wasn’t my trail tactics mate, it was your poor eye sight. I can lend you my reading glasses when you come over at the end of August if you want
I didn’t mind the B&B alas it offered good projectile protection, but because it mounted to the radiator it still got pushed about in crashesBuzz

it was my poor judgement that resulted in needing protection mate …… Not the first time I’ve said that either
Looking forward to Nundle , not sure what to bring ??? Crash the 250 or 450 ??

July 29, 2013 at 9:55 am #247136Fitted new Protaper half waffles and Barkbusters
New chain and sprockets 14-51 gearing . Rear brake pads.
Oversize front brake rotor worked a treat on the 250 so went the same again with new pads and a speedo drive eliminator.
It’s starting to take shape now so hopefully get a test run Sunday :woohoo:
