OK many years ago I owned and raced a KTM, before they became trendy, they had left hand kick starts, the clutches dragged when you stopped and parts in those days cost soooooooooooooo much more than anything else and you could only buy genuine parts. It was a quick bike it was actually a bike that Phil Lovett had setup for him but didn’t use.
Ok since buying this KTM Adventure of Mick I have been surprised by the cost of parts, they are dearer than Japanese parts, and its not where I am buying them from because any Jap parts I buy there are some cost as anywhere else.
Today I purchased an 11 tooth front sprocket, the sprocket was nearly twice the price of a 14 tooth for my 650:ohmy: . The headset bearings I bought today cost half as much again as the ones I bought for my bike.
The kids KTM shirts are twice the price of the Yamaha shirt Kieran (my son) bought. I priced a rear guard that has the side covers built as part of it and for the price I can buy a complete set of aftermarket plastic’s for my XR650. (full set almost) :ohmy:So there it is, they are dearer to buy and dearer to run,
yes I know they have all the gun components and Kieran’s nice bike, and Moto’s is well built with all the good gear.

The bike I bought from Mick in great condition, the parts I have bought are only because I am anal and like all bike things need fixing or wear out.

AnonymousI have noticed that by comparison to the jap stuff the KTM stuff does seem to cost more, and I do think that is a bad point about owning one. From a service/running point of view though in terms of maintainence I don’t think they cost more to run than any of the other jap bikes. The CRF and WR 450’s still have the same service intervals and require the same parts servicing, with the exception of a rear suspension linkage

January 15, 2009 at 9:50 am #118334Now I am starting to feel guilty. It was a good little bike that went well for us. I only wished I could get that motor in a pro senior frame as Taylah got to tall for us.
January 15, 2009 at 10:47 am #118336TB when you consider that the little beasts rev how they do, and make the crazy horsepower (dont forget they are a 50 cc !!!!) you would expect wear and tear. Sorry that you get so upset about your boys toys regardless of colour
