Well conditions were great with a few mm’s of rain last night.
O.G. arrived around 11:30 and Dude turned up at 12:00
We had to test O.G. to see what kind of tracks we would be doing for the arvo
So we took her through a tight little single straight off the bat.
After assessing what level she was at we tailored the ride to suit
O.G. is a very determined lady but after a few hours of mainly singles she was showing signs of fatigue
I didn’t get many pics and missed a great oppertunity just after the tunnel where Dude had stopped to show O.G. the easier line but she was on his tail and when he stopped so did she. Unfortunately there was no ground to place her feet and she tumbled down a reedy bank almost landing in the creek upside down. Thankfully she got up laughing. :woohoo:
All up it was a fun day out and I hope you also enjoyed yourself, O.G.
Thanks, Dude for coming out and helping with the leading and sweeping
Cheers
MurphMarch 29, 2013 at 7:02 am #238844Only a few pics of Oldgirl.
She did pretty good and should be proud of herself. :woohoo:
Riding down Deadhorse.
Just after a creek crossing
Coming through the tunnel
Smashing a creek crossing. :woohoo:March 29, 2013 at 7:53 am #238845Good job boys, when she starts riding better than you guys you know OG has been taught well.
Might suggest OG if you look at Dude coming down the deadhorse his elbows are in a good position, elbows up makes life a little easier.

Well done OG, even a easy ride with Murph and Co. won’t be a truly easy ride……he hasn’t got it in him!

March 29, 2013 at 10:13 am #238846Firstly
A HUGE HUGE thankyou to Murph and Dude :woohoo: :woohoo: Those two put up with me for over 4hrs today going at a pace that must have been killing them to ride. Not to mention the frequent stopping bc either I’d
a) lost my balance and dropped the bike (still can’t touch the ground properly )
b) stalled it
c) towards the end stalled it bc my hands were so numb I couldn’t feel to pull the clutch in :whistle:Now that I’m home tucked up in bed….with several ice packs  and I can actually move my fingers properly again I can say it was a fabulous learning experience for me. I know now I had never ridden ANY singles before.
Now I know when the ruts go half way up your tyre yeah thats a single. So my ride report…..What really happened…….Murphs was the glossy (too kind) version.
Started off from Murphs house with him leading and dude sweeping. I knew I was in trouble after about ohhh 2min into the test track when I realised that it was just one long rut of varying depths and that frankly I had NO idea what I was doing. Normally I avoid ruts like the plague and ride around them…..there was NO around option here though
I was dead nervous , Murph just flew through it all and poor Dude was stuck behind me watching the car crash that was me attempting thier singles. Once we were out of thier test track area they both looked at each other and said ‘Main track’.
Murph slowed down now (thank god) but poor Dude was still up my butt on car crash watch. Dude gave me some great tips on how to ride these damn things and tried to figure out when I dropped it actually what the hell happened. Sometimes neither of us could figure it out though  .
There were quite a few stopps where Murph and Dude had a chat about which way to go that would be easier for me. When Murph would say ‘yeah but there is that icky section there’ I started praying they weren’t going THAT way.
After about 2hrs I started to feel a bit more comfortable and stopped stalling it as much. basically bc I’d figured out I need to just keep riding the clutch…..constantly. hence the sore hands.
I’m not sure at what time my best stack to date happened. I know it was after the tunnel though.
At this point Dude was leading and Murph was on crash watch. They had said something about a tunnel, meant nothing to me though. Yeah its not a tunnel so much as a huge 30mt long pipe under a highway with a foot of water in it. I think there are rocks under the water , couldn’t say was just trying to keep my balance.
So Dude flys through it and I can hear Murphs beast reving and echoing right behind me so I’m determined to get out of this thing as quick as possible. Of course the exit is not flat…..no….its another hill with the option of either
a) ruts
b) ruts with tree roots
or c) a smaller rut but bit tight through the trees and right on the edge of a 6ft drop off into a creek.Dude heads straight for the edge track I think great and follow . But he stopped at the top to check where I was not realizing I was so close.
I pull up quickly and put my left foot down worried I’m going to stall again. Stopped worring about stalling when I realized that clump of blade grass I was putting my foot on wasn’t on the top of the track it was growing from the SIDE of the drop off!Now I knew I was falling to the left. I think Dude grabbed my bike bc it didn’t come down ontop of me. And I could here Murph go ‘whooow here we go’. I’m pretty good a falling so I tucked and twisted round so basically I slid down the blade grass on my back. Only problem was I ended up on my shoulders with my legs straight up in the air and my head inches away from the creek. :pinch:
PERFECT PHOTO OPP!
I was laughing so hard it took me a bit to flip my legs round and crawl out. Murph DID get his camera out and I think he should have taken a photo of my arse and legs in the air. But I must say Dude is a bit of a gentleman and told Murph not to take a pic
Murph and Dude were trying very hard to take me on easy tracks so thanks guys. Murph even stopped going down one that had tonnes of tree root little step ups . I seriously didn’t think I’d make it up one bc it was about wheel height. Dude later said I ‘blipped’ up it….. I just didn’t do so well after the blip.
Clutch,Clutch MUST REMEMBER CLUTCH…..Thank god the tree branch that speared into my chin under my helmet was rotten and snapped as I fell onto it and the bike then fell onto my knee. I stayed up right though and my helmet did not touch the ground. That is now my new measure for an ‘off’. Did my helmet touch the ground?
Anyway I’m thinking about 3 hrs in ‘I wonder how much I could sell this bike for, or maybe adventure bike riding would be more suited to me, or even road riding!’.
That pic of me riding down the hill yeah I didn’t make it back up. By that stage my hands were so tired I could barely pull in the clutch. I got about 1/4 up realised I just didn’t have the energy to keep going. Put the bike down and got Murph to ride it up the rest of the way.
I tried to take some pics but fingers couldn’t use the phone camera properly
Dude peeled off for home and Murph and I headed back to his place. I was totally stuffed!
Those two men are machines I swear. Their fitness is amazing.
Murph loaded my bike on ….thank you. I didn’t even change out of my very smelly gear I just headed on home.Thank you guys. I learnt soooo much today.
March 29, 2013 at 11:01 am #238847Great report guys….. And great effort by all…. Weel done OG !
March 29, 2013 at 7:44 pm #238857One of the best reports I’ve read for a long time, OG.
Glad to hear you learnt a few things as we do every single time we go out
I feel by stepping out of your comfort zone occassionally you have to learn new things, even if it is only not to step out of your comfort zone too often.
But seriously , OG, WELL DONE. I hope you stick with it because it does get easier with every ride.
Cheers

Cheers Teza.March 29, 2013 at 11:14 pm #238849I am in awe of Murph and dudes riding skill. Nothing seems to stop them. Amazing.
I would reccomend riding with them any day. I don’t imagine they’d want to take newbies out too often though
If there was way you could watch them ride without having to have a near death experience I’d be there in a flash
I must admit I would like to have another crack at it bc I did learn a hell of a lot.
Looking forward to thier grade 5 report tonight.
