With Nickj’s 40th looming he had decided to get away for a long weekend and wisley chose Noosa as the spot. When he asked me if was keen I immediatley thought of Mike and hatched a plan. For those of you not at last years Coffs ride, Mike and his son Tom are Noosa locals who rip on WR450’s. Mike has over 20 years trials experience which he puts to great use off road and Tom had no choice but to grow into a great rider with and old man as solid on a bike as Mike.
I had no sooner gotten off the phone to Nick when I sent a text to Mike to see if he would be able to show us his local. In typical form he re-arranged any plans he had so that we could do a Saturday ride.
ChrisT was also coming up but unlike Nick and I he was not driving but flying from Sydney so we had to organise a bike for him. The pact was made that all ride or none so we set about doing everything we could to source one. In the end we rented a DRZ400e for an ungodly sum of money but the day was set and we would get to ride with Mike and Tom on home turf.
Early Friday morning Elise and I left the babies with the grand parents and hit the road for the drive to Nicks where we would then drive in convoy to Noosa. With my new Navara packed up I had to get a shot.Friday night in Noosa we took it relaively easy in anticipation for the ride and soon enough Saturday morning arrived and we where on our way. Mike had brought out a local guy named Steve so in total there were 6 of us gearing up in a quarry about 30 minutes west of Noosa. Getting ready it was cold but Mike assured us we would soon warm up and he was right. In this company it was always going to be a quick ride and from the very start we kept a good pace.
Note:(The video is filmed at full 1080 so run the resolution your computer can handle the best or give them time to upload)

As we got deeper into the forest the trails started to narrow and the sun was getting blocked by the thick canopy. The coditions were perfect with zero dust and tacky loam.

Each time we finished a single we would pop out onto a old logging trail and these too were great fun. Here is a section following Nick.

By now we were all feeling good and the pace continued. We were running cornerman but every one was in one tight group and we flowed as one.

September 12, 2011 at 6:00 pm #208636Just when everything was going well and we were all getting into a rythmn disater struck. I was following Tom when I saw him pull up quick and look down at his radiator. Sure enough he had punched a thumb size stick straight through it and it was dumping coolant. It was a heardt shot and his day was done so we all rode back slowly to the cars and loaded him up. Sad to see him go but better that happen on home turf than on a big ride somewhere else.
Mike soon had us back into epic trails and this one folowing him is a good example.http://www.youtube.com/user/singletrack71?feature=mhee#p/u/4/TG1sTD-TGxw
Everytime we stopped ChrisT would be there on his rental. To say he did well is an understatement! It was set up for runs up the beach and not for what we were doing. Super soft suspension and a cut out switch on the kick stand that would kill the bike everytime he landed a jump or hit something hard. Out came the fencing wire and we solved that problem but it meant he did have to find a suitable tree to lean against whenever we stopped which was not very often.
There were trails of all types from terraced logging tracks

September 12, 2011 at 11:21 pm #208688What a top weekend !!
A huge thanks to 2 great mates for making the effort and coming to Noosa.
STM had a big 7 hr drive to get their and Chris T had a flight from Sydney. They both came with their wives/ partners and my wife came too , they then spent the weekend comparing how much of an Old Bull addict we are and taking the piss accordingly !!Thanks heaps to Mike ( he’s a legend) who led a stunning ride through the most varied terrain around. I had a ball and just wish Tom was their a bit longer to enjoy it
.
Steve was a great bloke to ride with and the towel he put on his head every time he put his lid on to make it fit kept us all laughing. As did Chris T getting a bog standard DRZ around some testing trails, he’s used to a KTM 690 and watching him bottom the DRZ on every bump was a classic.
I have a heap of Trillion Dollar Goggle footage and will ( slowly ) load it as YouTube accepts the HD quality footage
!!!
Thanks again to all for this weekend !! I’m still a bit dazed and confused from all the beer
September 12, 2011 at 11:57 pm #208689:dry: :HAPPY BIRTHDAY HELEN.(NICK)

toesSeptember 13, 2011 at 12:34 am #208631Well it was real good to see you guys and was also a pleasure to show you round some of the local tracks, had’nt met Chris before but turned out to be a nice bloke who did a great job of punting the DR round
It was a funny sort of start to the weekend with friday lunchtime bringing some VERY black skies, which soon turned into torrential rain to the extent that Scott said he had the wipers on as fast as they could go and still had to slow down to about 40ks per hour on the Bruce highway:ohmy:
The last thing it was looking like was that there was going to be gorgeous blue skies and perfect riding weather the next morningbut I was confidant:P
Looking through Scott’s video footage shows how good it turned out to be;), did around 100ks in all with everybody looking like they enjoyed it:P
Toms bike was stripped down in the shed by the time I got home and will be in fine shape for the Coffs ride which is fast approaching:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
Look forward to seeing you guys again, in the meantime I will think a bit more about trying to put on an Old Bulls ride up here in the future:S :SSeptember 13, 2011 at 12:52 am #208711Noosa is only 4.5hrs from Rocky! Id be keen for a ride if you do organise one.
